Christmas Crafts For Kids: "Penguin Ornament Craft Kit"

Miss Fortune
Home made Christmas ornaments are a great way for kids to get in on the holiday crafting experience. The Penguin Ornament Craft Kit comes with everything you need to make a dozen decorated penguins. Each kit contains 24 plastic balls (12 for the body, 12 for the head), 24 penguin arms and 24 feet (two for each ornament), scarves, hats, jingle bells and bows for each. The most time consuming part of the project is painting the head and allowing it to dry. There are kits that you can buy that have them already painted, those cost only a dollar or two more than this one. The average assembly time for them is about an hour because you do have to wait until the paint is completely dry to put on the hat.

To make these look a little more festive you can open the larger ball used for the body and add tinsel or a small piece of tissue paper. One of my favorite things to do is to put mini candies inside it and add it to a cookie tray. These can be used as ornaments, decorations or on gift bags but I don't suggest putting anything heavy inside it if you are going to use it on a box or bag. There is a whole series of ornaments in this line; some of the others include polar bears, reindeer, Santa and some very round elves! The cost per kit is about ten dollars which isn't bad when you consider you are getting enough material to make a dozen ornaments.

Since these have some delicate items to assemble I don't suggest this kit for younger kids. If you are looking for something comparable for kids in the five to seven year range, there are a lot of foam cut out ornament kits that you can get for them. They are safer, less expensive and smaller so kids won't get frustrated if they make a mistake. The Penguin Ornament Craft Kit is a fun project that kids can make to give as gifts or to occupy them when they are on Christmas break. For the price the kit is well worth the suggested retail price but you can always hit the after-season sales and stock up on them for next year.
