Christmas Crafts: Light Bulb Reindeer

Stephanie Manning
A Light Bulb Reindeer is a fun and easy craft that can been done with simplicity. These adorable little reindeer can be hung on the Christmas tree or hung around the house for decoration. The Light Bulb Reindeer can be crafted by adults and older children.

* Smaller children will require supervision due to the glass bulb.

Here's What You Need:

Light Bulb

Thin Ribbon- ribbon can be any color but red is usually preferred

One Sheet of Brown Felt or Foam

Small Red Pom-pom

Craft Glue

Brown Paint - preferably a few shades lighter then your felt

Black Permanent Marker

Scissors

Start by painting your light bulb brown. You will need to paint the front side and allow it to fully dry before painting the backside of the light bulb. This will prevent smudging when laying the bulb down.

Next, create the face. With the neck of the light bulb being the top of the head, start just below the bulge and draw on the eyes. Make large tear drop shaped eyes. Fill in the bottom portion of the eye with marker. HINT: To make girl eyes, make them a little rounder with big eye lashes.

Once you have the eyes created eyes, draw on a mouth. A small curved line with a curve on each end will do fine. Be sure to leave enough space to add your nose in the middle of the eyes and mouth. Remember, you want them to look simple so as not to take away from the home made appearance.

After adding the eyes and mouth you can add the nose. Use some craft glue to center the red pom-pom into the middle of the eyes mouth. Lay the bulb down on the backside and allow the nose to dry.

While you are waiting on your nose to dry get started on your antlers. Use the dark brown felt or foam to cut out to antlers. Using your marker, draw out an antler using a 3 pointed shape like a turkey's foot. Draw more rounded edges so they look more real like. Once you have drawn your design, cut out 2 sets. HINT: You may want to use a small child's' hand print or even an older child's middle three fingers. After cutting out your antlers, glue one on each side, with the point sticking out to the side.

After your reindeer is complete take the ribbon and form a loop. Glue the loop to the top back side of the reindeer. Allow the glue to dry before trying to hang it.

A bit complicated for my daughter, but I'm sure this would work well for older kids. It sounds like it would look cute.
