For this project, you will need (per ornament):
- One Christmas themed wooden cutout such as a tree or candy cane shape (available at craft supply stores)
- Medium or fine grit sandpaper
- Tack cloth or other style soft cloth
- Krylon Indoor Outdoor Primer in All-Purpose White
- Krylon Indoor Outdoor Paint in Gloss Black
- Krylon Brights Hobby and Craft Paint Pen in Neon Pink
- Krylon Crystal Clear Acrylic Finishing Spray
- Zebra print scrapbook paper
- Pencil
- Monogram stencil
- Craft knife
- Self healing mat
- Sponge brush
- Mod Podge or other style decoupage medium
- Craft roller
- Hot pink satin ribbon
- Hot glue gun and glue sticks
- Newspaper and/or a large drop cloth
Before starting your ornament project, cover the space in which you will be crafting with a large sized drop cloth or several sheets of old newspaper. Gently sand the outside of the Christmas themed wooden cutout using medium or fine grit sandpaper sheets. Wipe away any dust on the cutout with a tack cloth or other type of soft cloth.
Lay the Christmas cutout flat. Prime one side of the wood using a coat of Krylon Indoor Outdoor Primer in All-Purpose White. Wait for thirty minutes before flipping the cutout over and priming the opposing side. Allow the primed wooden piece to dry fully before proceeding. Paint the outside of the ornament with several coats of Krylon Indoor Outdoor Paint in Gloss Black. Make sure the entire wooden tree cutout is covered in paint. Dry fully.
Lay a sheet of zebra print scrapbook paper flat on the self healing mat. In pencil, trace around the outside of the black painted wooden cutout onto the paper. Cut out the design using a craft knife. Apply a thick layer of Mod Podge or other decoupage medium to the non-print side of the paper. Adhere the zebra print pattern to the wooden cutout. Smooth the paper using a small craft roller. Let the glue dry completely.
Use a stencil and a pencil to trace a monogram into the center of the zebra print portion of the ornament. Fill in the design using a Krylon Brights Hobby and Craft Paint Pen in Neon Pink. Spray the entire project with a couple coats of Krylon Crystal Clear Acrylic Finishing Spray. Once dry, heat up the hot glue gun. Cut a length of satin ribbon. Attach the ribbon in a loop and adhere it to the back of the ornament using hot glue. Once cooled, hang your new zebra print ornament as desired.
