Christmas for Dad was Always Simple

Roni ODonnell
This will be my first Christmas without my father. I will sure miss him but he was so easy to buy for. Christmas birthday, etc.

I always supplied him with phone cards. He had family all over the country so that made it easy to call them all the time. He actually had his long distance turned off because I always kept him supplied.. He'd call my brother, sister and cousins all the time. Phone cards make very good gifts and are not that expensive anymore.

Pictures were always other great gift ideas. Of course, he could not be at every event or adventure of the family. Everyone takes pictures and collecting them from everyone is very easy. That helped him be there and he'd enjoy talking about the picture and what occurred at the time. He was actually able to share the experience.

Today with pictures you can have many types of products made. Blankets, calendars, books, ornaments, video slide shows, etc. There is so much. I was always having something made for him. He especially enjoyed the calendars because they were always on display. I'd make him video slide shows. He'd watch them over and over. He'd always talk and laugh about the pictures. Even the older ones helped him relive the past.

Last year I also made books with a hard cover and actual pages of the pictures. Then you can choose the layouts and add text to the pictures telling stories. I know people that say they don't have time for scrap booking anymore so they have these books made. They are not expensive, take a Little time and are fun to make.

I know with today's digital I take tons of pictures. I can not possibly afford to have them all processed I make two Cd's of all the pictures I take. I also make copies for family and of course my dad. At times he would just take the CD and select the pictures he wanted.

My father actually had his own library of pictures. Pictures are memories that you can look and and enjoy. It was so easy to choose gifts for him. Pictures gifts are actually inexpensive and easy gifts for anyone. Especially today with all your stores like Walmart, Target, Walgreen's, and others offering these options with pictures.

One thing about older people is that they love to reminisce over the past. What better gift to give them. Another thing they especially enjoy is time with loved ones.

Aw, sweet article; the first holiday is the worst when you've lost a parent.
