When decorating for the Christmas holidays many people avoid decorating their staircases believing they would be too difficult and also not having too many ideas on how to create a good light effect on the stairs. The following are some great ideas for the staircases and what else you need to help add to the lights to create a great affect on your stairs.
The first thing to decide is whether you want white lights or color. White lights will create a more elegant classy look, and colored lights will give you a cozy homey feel. When using white lights to decorate your staircase during Christmas you will want to grab some extra decorations to intertwine with your light strands. White tulle is a beautiful and non expensive way to help wrap with the lights. During Christmas time they also have the green garland strands that look like evergreen which you can weave through with the tulle and the lights. Really dependent on how big of a statement you are trying to make.
When using colored lights, you can also decorate with tulle but go with a color like red or green. The evergreen garland would weave beautifully through the colored lights as you string them around your staircase. Some other ways to decorate with colored lights would be tinsel, or silver garland if you want it to pop. One of the best ideas for colored lights is weave them with green garland then wrap it around the staircase, using the balusters as the spacers. Then come back through with gold or red ribbon that you can use to keep the garland and light together by wrapping the ribbon around it and tying a bow.
Now there are ways to make sure the lights and material or garland all stays together, just make sure to have some of those twist ties around your house. Green ones are perfect or you can just take the paper off the wire and then all you have is the wire which is very hard to see so it does not detract from the design. If your lights or garland are not sitting right on the stair case, then get some of that wall putty and put small pieces on your stair case top and push the light strand into it, which will keep everything in place.
Lastly just remember when decorating your staircase or home for Christmas, just make sure the style is you, that is what matters most. If you want elegant go elegant, but if you are more a homey person like me than use the colored lights and create the warmth and look you want.
