Cheap Alternatives for Decorating a Bathroom for the Holidays

Max Stout
Few people actually plan out how to decorate their bathroom for Christmas. At best, even the guest bathroom is lucky to receive a box of Christmas color potpourri. This holiday extend yourself a little bit with a minimum amount of money and give your bathrooms, or at least the bathroom used by your holiday guests, a bit of Christmas fun.

Kleenex Box Decorations

It is always handy to leave a box of Kleenex in your bathroom for the guest who needs to touch up their make-up or daub away a tear when emotions run high at Christmas get togethers. Accent your tissue box by covering it with a crocheted Kleenex cozy in Christmas colors or by purchasing a Christmas themed Kleenex holder or a pre-decorated box. Themed boxes can usually be hand at a dollar store for a minimum dollar investment.

Towels and Shower Curtains

Towels, especially hand towels, can be purchased with a variety of Christmas themes ranging from Santa to Frosty the Snowman. Leave a stack of these folded on the bathroom counter to leave the Christmas spirit on display for your guests and your family as a fun bit of decoration. Regular towels in Christmas colors like red or green can also be displayed as can a shower curtain. Again, seasonal towels can usually be picked up for a buck at dollar stores or for a similar price at Wal-Mart.

Lotions and Candles

Every bathroom is inevitably going to have a selection of lotions and a candle or two on display. Get into the holiday spirit by leaving out lotions in fun holiday scents, or scents that conjure up holiday images. Good suggestions for both lotion and candle scents are vanilla, cinnamon, baked pie scents such as apple or blueberry, and pumpkin. The candles will add some holiday cheer to the room whether they are lit or not, and the lotion is not only considerate of the cooler weather but fun also! All manners of lotions and candles are available in bulk during the holidays for between five and ten dollars.

Toilet Paper Covers

A fun decoration that was popular in the late 80s and early 90s were toilet paper covers. Many crafters would make these with a wooden spoon painted and clothed with a poofy dress to conceal a spare roll of toilet paper. Make one of these for the holidays. A great choice is Mrs. Clause! The only investment that has to be made here is in the wooden spoon. The dress can be easily crafted out of rags or borrowed from an unused doll.

Placemats

If you have some Christmas placemats leftover from the dining room or that have been replaced, use them to decorate the bathroom. A placemat can be set on the back of the toilet to act as a doily for a candle or potpourri. One can also lay on the bathroom counter with a selection of holiday lotions and soaps on top.

The bathroom is always labeled the most important and most used room in the house, so you will surely get maximum mileage and exposure with any decorations you choose to implement in the bathroom this Christmas season. If all of the suggestions in this article were used and every item put together from scratch, the total cost of decorating the bathroom for the holidays would amount to less than $20.00.
