Christmas Dinner Recipe for Beer Basted Baked Ham

Peter R
First of all, there is no need to worry about the ham tasting like beer; it won't. It makes it far more tender, to the point that it melts in your mouth. At most, there will be a slight hint of beer flavor. The following recipe I perfected myself through trial and error and from the advice of my parents. I guarantee it will be a holiday hit with the beer friendly members of your family.

To serve a medium to large sized family will require the following:

15-20 pounds bone-in ham

1 can of sliced pineapple

2 12-oz cans of beer. Avoid cheap beer; stick with Miller Genuine Draft or Budweiser. Stay away from dark beer and ales which can affect the flavor.

Preheat your oven to 325 degrees F (165 degrees C). Grease

an 18 quart roasting pan.

Take the ham and place it on the pan with the fattier side facing up.

Skewer the pineapple slices on the ham hunk with wooden tooth picks.

Pour the beer over the ham and place the lid on the roasting pan.

The baking time ranges from 6 to 8 hours or until it's cooked thoroughly and is tender. Afterwards, remove the

pineapple rings and let it sit for 15-20 minutes before slicing and serving. Best served with typical holiday sides such as mashed potatoes, yams and cranberries.
