Christmas Donations: Greensboro, NC

Deborah Clark
Christmas is a time of giving. Many families don't have what they need to make a decent holiday. If you are one of the millions who want to help those less fortunate, there are plenty of places locally you drop off donations to help others. Here are just a few of them.

Salvation Army

The Salvation Army accepts donations of food, clothing, and money year round. During the Holiday season they amp up their drives. You can donate spare change in any of the bell-ringer buckets you find throughout the Piedmont in front of many stores. They also sponsor the Angel Tree program. These are Christmas tree's placed throughout the local area. The tree's are decorated with Angel tags. These tags will list a child's age and their wants. You can purchase the items on the tag and drop them off at the location of the tree.

Toys for Tots

Toys for Tots was set up by the Marine Corps in 1991. Their goal is to collect toys for needy children and distribute these locally. In Greensboro they have several drop off locations. Toys "R" Us, Wingate by Wyndham, Palm Harbor Homes, Ann Crittenden Hallmark, Eagle Physicians, and Walgreens are just a few places that will have boxes set up for your donations.

Santa's Workshop

The Greensboro Youth Council has set up a drive called Santa's Workshop. What's unique about this toy drive is they accept toys that have been gently used. The toys are distributed to children in the Piedmont who need them. You can drop off toys at any Sun Trust Bank Branch, The Children's Museum, and the Cultural Arts Center from November 16th to December 7th. All toys should be in working order, and clean. Stuffed animals are only accepted if they are new, and electronic items need to be in working condition, and sets such as tea sets or building blocks should be sealed in a plastic bag so the pieces don't get separated.

Goodwill Industries

Goodwill has been a big part of local charity and support for many years. When you are looking to make donations around the holiday, Goodwill is a great place to start. You can donate money, time, or gently used toys and clothing to their local retail centers. This will ensure that low income families have an option when it comes to providing a Christmas for their family.

A simple donation can make a huge difference for a family in need. It won't cost a lot of money to give a child a Christmas to remember.
