Christmas Eve Church Services in Canton, Georgia

Lacey Stan
I have always loved the since of anticipation that came with Christmas Eve. There is something special about Christmas Eve in my town of Canton in north Georgia. The lights as you drive through town, the ribbons and wreaths as you pass by the houses, and of course the elaborate nativities you see outside of the churches. Church is also a big deal here in the middle of the Bible belt, and Christmas Eve services are a special time for families to get together and enjoy a special service. So if you do not have a regular church, or if you are new to the area, I have compiled a list of a few churches and the services they are going to be giving.

St. Clements Episcopal Church- This is an Episcopal church just as the title suggests. This church has beautiful architecture with gorgeous stained glass windows. On Christmas Eve they are having a Morning Prayer service at 9:00 AM and then they are celebrating the Wednesday Holy Eucharist at 6:00 PM that evening.

Antioch Christian Church- This church is a non- denominational church. It is a special church with a bit of a crowd but not bad at all. They are having a Candlelight communion service at 6:00 PM. Then after the service there will be refreshments being served in the Fellowship Hall of the church.

Catholic Church of Our Lady- This Catholic Church is following the tradition of many Catholic churches and having the Midnight Mass to bring in Christmas morning. It is obviously going to start at midnight.

Hopewell Baptist Church- This is a Baptist church and one of many found in the south. They are going to have a very special Christmas Eve Service. Unfortunately they are not going to have a candlelight vigil this year, but they are having their service a little earlier this year. With the service being held at 4:00 in the afternoon you will have more time after the service to ensure a special Christmas Eve dinner with your family.

First United Methodist Church- Again this church is obviously a Methodist church seeing as how the denomination is conveniently in the title. This church takes the cake with Christmas Eve activities planned. It starts off at 5:00 PM with a children's service that will take place in the Fellowship Hall of the church. Then at 8:00 PM there is going to be a candlelight nativity that is sure to impress the entire family. Then at 11:00 PM there is going to be a candlelight communion service.
