Christmas Every Day

Steve Helmer

The holidays are here, the presents are wrapped and under the tree.

I couldn't help but notice that, so far, none of them are for me.

But, this doesn't matter; I don't care if I get gifts anyway.

Because, when I'm with you, it's like it's Christmas every day.

The Christmas lights will never be as bright as the sparkle in your eyes.

And the angel at the top, if she were real, would never be as comforting as your sighs.

Even if we had a fireplace, the fire would never be as warm

As the feeling I get just from holding you in my arms.

The wrapping paper is pretty but it will eventually rip.

And it will never be as pretty as your soft lips.

The house looks festive and bright with all its decorations and trappings.

But, we both know it's you I would rather be "unwrapping."

So if Christmas morning comes and under tree

Are lots of presents but none for me

Don't think I'm lying when I say it doesn't matter, because it's true.

Because every day is like Christmas Day as long as I'm with you.
