The 2009 Christmas season promises to have activities and festivals for everyone.

Christmas is a magical time of the year, with goodies, parties and good cheer. People can find some reason to be happy, even in the economic downturn. Some ways to find some holiday cheer is located in Lexington, Kentucky.

An early Christmas favorite is located at Keeneland Art Fair. The horse racetrack is next to the Bluegrass Airport, on Versailles Road. It runs November 28 and 29th, after Thanksgiving and consists of 80 of the finest juried artists and craftsmen in the state. You can find something hand made that will thrill the fussiest of people. The best part is that admission and parking are free, so take in an afternoon of some beautiful metal works, paintings, photography, basket weaving and more.

Southern Lights is another great tradition in Lexington. The family strolls through the Lexington Horse Park to enjoy three miles of color, lights and themed displays. This also includes railroad displays, Santa Claus, musical shows, an exotic petting zoo and pony rides. The dates are November 20 to December 31, from 5:30 to 10:00 pm. Fees range from $15.00 to $125.00, depending on the vehicle size.

I have been to this next event a few years now. The 2009 Lexington Christmas Parade and Winter Festival has been set for November 27 to start at 2:00 pm. The market is open all day for Christmas shopping. This is a fun filled day of activities for the whole family. Food, crafts, musicals, and shopping for all to enjoy. The shops are great and I always find a unique hand made item.

Stay for the Christmas tree lighting with Santa Claus after the the parade. The parade begins at Midland Avenue and Main Street and travels west on Main Street, and ends up at Vine Street and Broadway Street. All the activities are held at Triangle Park, in the heart of Lexington. you can get to Triangle park on Limestone from the south highway 27 or from Interstate 75, on Newtown Pike, going south.

Have you ever had a carriage ride? You're in for a treat because the Lexington Livery will be providing free carriage rides from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm. in downtown Lexington. It begins in Triangle Park, rides along Main, Lime and Vine Streets. The kids will love this unusual treat! They can be reached by website or phone them at 859-259-0000.

A favorite holiday classic, The Nutcracker, performedby The Lexington Ballet. It will take place at the UK Fine Arts Building, University of Kentucky Guignol Theatre, in Lexington, Kentucky. This starts on Friday, at 8:00 pm, December 11 and runs to the 20th. Tickets are $20.00 to $35.00 and reservations are required, so call them at 859-225-0370.

So there you have it; the main events that are sure to please any age or budget this holiday season. Children and adults can find a Christmas event that will they both can enjoy.

Be sure to call or email ahead of time to ensure your time and reservations, if necessary.
