Christmas in Florida - Poem

Where's the Snow?

JUNEANN REED
I grew up on an Iowa farm
There were corn, beans, oats and hay,
Plus dairy cows - Holsteins - black and white
Pigs, chickens and more, kept us busy all the day.

In spring my dad got his machines ready
To plow and disc, plant and pray for,
Those crops they grew, and grew and grew
Harvested in the fall - wagons full and more.

The fields of harvest were golds and tans
Standing high, then bended low,
Whether the sun shined bright
Or whether we had rains, wind and snow.

These folks down here see few changes
In weather or fields day by day,
Do they even understand the harvest
Or do they just work and play?

And Frosty sits on grass of green
My gosh, he looks so silly,
Old Santa and his sleigh and more
And bright flowers willy-nilly.

We love their warm, warm weather,
And they're thankful and am I,
But back in Iowa I look up and smile
As fluffy snowflakes fall from the sky.

The harvest fields are put to rest
And Santa fills his sleigh,
The snow will ease his trip
For a happy Christmas day.

  • Fields of Iowa in golds and tans - it's harvest time.
  • Santa in Florida alongside the bright flowers.
  • Iowa Christmas
We find good and bad in every climate. Iowa? Yes it gets cold and blustery, but the vision of those huge and fluffy snow flakes falling on Christmas eve make it seem like Christmas. Warm weather, bright flowers and Santa? Well?????

Sounds like you're missing home. Have a good Christmas season.

I grew up and still live in the upper midwest. I know where you're coming from on this one.
