Christmas Games

Board games are great for those family moments when you can all interact with each other in a mindless funny way. Board games are unfortunately being overshadowed by the electronic gaming industries however in this article I hope to re-open these treasures for christmas, and lets face it it's a great way to make your gift-boxes around the tree to look much more exciting.

One of my favourite board games is scrabble because it is educational (especially if you have an up to date dictionary to justify your answers. One of my favourite words that came was 'Quizzical' and it landed on a double and a triple scoring part of the board. It's great with two players however you can have up to five players depending on whether you have enough racks and score books to record scores. This game requires as I'm sure you'll already know a reasonable understanding of Maths and English.

USAopoly has released a 'Beatles' Monopoly, and has shifted the property emphasis more to music and record deals. Monopoly is a classic game involving fake money, interesting board pieces again for up to five players (depending upon whether you can find all the pieces). Monopoly is by far one of the most successful, entrancing board games available to all, so the 'Beatles' input will be sure to excite everybody at Christmas.

When I was a boy every week in my local legion hall I could go to what was called a Beatle Drive, it was for money and you had an equal chance of winning money. That in mind my next suggestion is the board game 'Beatle Drive'. This should not be confused with the Beatles Monopoly this game is purely original to British culture. When the dice is rolled each number represents a different part of the Beatle's body. Provided in this package is a diagram box of Beatles pencils and plenty of die for you to roll. However I am not sure how traditional for Christmas this sugestion is I can guarantee you'll have a laugh playing this one and it's cheap.

'Pass the pigs' is another funny rolling game, with the exception of dice. 'Pass the pigs' is all about rolling the pigs and depending on how they land justifies your score. Here is a link to the pigs game online to see if you like it:

however it's not the same without having the little pigs in your hands to roll so here's where you can buy the game for yourself or your kids.

Have a special Christmas and beat the rush buy now rather than shopping on Christmas Eve.

This brings back such happy memories. I used to love playing Monopoly, especially when I had a hotel on Park Place and Board Walk. Great article!
