Christmas Games for Your Family

M. Kaye Hash
My family loves to play Christmas games. Almost every year we play some kind of Christmas game with prizes like small gifts, gift certificates, the chance to open your big gift first, or just the fun of winning!

We try to play a different game each year to make it new. Every one has to play and, generally, everyone wins! These are great ways to spread out the gift opening!

Christmas Game: Poker

We played poker for our Christmas game one year. Each person took a hand and the winning hand got to open their big present. We did this until everyone had won and everyone had opened a big present. We have played variations on this where the winner of the poker hand wins the extra prize for the evening, such as a gift certificate or a non gender gift.

Christmas Game: Decorate the Tree

This Christmas game was cause for a lot of giggling. We paired up in teams, one person was the decorator and one was the tree. The "tree" had to be wrapped in crepe paper and hung with foam ornaments all within the space of a Christmas song. We used a singing Santa Claus to keep time. The winning team won ornaments filled with candy.

Christmas Game: Build a Gingerbread House

This is a fun game with a large group of people. Split into teams again. Each team is given the same amount of graham crackers, icing and candies to decorate and build their house. Each team must complete their house within two minutes. Once completed, everyone votes on their favorite house. The team that is voted as having the best house won restaurant gift certificates.
