Many people consider their pet as much a part of their family as they do any other family member. For those pet owners that plan to include their pooch in the Christmas festivities this year, here are a few Christmas gift ideas for your dog.
Dog Chew Toys
Dogs love chewing on things including things we don't want them to chew on. When choosing a chew toy for your dog there are a few things that need to be considered.
1. The Size-Make sure the chew toy is the appropriate size for your pet so that they can not swallow it or get choked on it.
2. Attachments-The chew toys should not have any type of attachment such as strings, tassles, buttons or any other parts that can be chewed off and possibly eaten by the dog. Because of the attachments like buttons, stuffed animals should not be given to a dog as a chew toy. They can also chew holes in the stuffed animal and ingest the stuffing which could be harmful.
3. Cleaning-Choose a dog chew toy that can be cleaned easily. Dogs will carry these toys around both inside and out and they will need to be cleaned often.
4. Durable Chew Toys- Dogs can be hard on their toys so choose a chew toy that is made of durable rubber. This will make them last longer and won't be harmful to the dog's teeth.
Pet Tug Toys
Tug toys usually require human participation and they are a great way for you and you dog to play. To keep from hurting the dog's teeth, choose strong tug toys made from durable rubber or braided rope.
Fetch Toys
It is well known that many dogs like to fetch sticks. They also enjoy chasing down Frisbees and balls. If you plan to play fetch with your dog in the water be sure to have a toy that will float.
More Practical Christmas Gift Ideas for Your Dog
Practical may not always be fun but there are things that dogs need in order to maintain their health and wellness. Practical gift ideas for a dog can include vet checkups, grooming appointments, a new collar or even new bedding. These are things that all pets need in order to keep them healthy and happy.
You can use some dog treats and a combination of these Christmas gift ideas for dogs listed above to make a special Christmas stocking just for your dog. Try to keep a variety of dog toys available and swap them out regularly to keep your dog from getting bored with the same toy.
