Christmas Gift Ideas for Golfers

If you are a golfer and are looking for Christmas gifts for them, you pretty well know what to get. This article is more for someone who doesn't play golf, is mystified by the hold it has on your significant other, friend or whatever, and has no clue what to get as a Christmas giftfor the golfer in your life.

As anyone who plays or has spent much time on a golf course, you know that golfers are a notoriously finicky bunch. Not just any kind of ball, golf glove or shoes will do. And don't buy clubs of any kind without knowing exactly what the recipient wants as a golf Christmas gift. The best way to get a scowl or a "that's nice" reply while they are wondering if you will give them the receipt to the purchase, is to get a serious golfer a set of generic golf clubs from Wal-Mart.

So, now that we've covered what not to get a serious golfer for Christmas, what are some ideas for gifts that will be well received by your golfing friend?

Now, we're talking. Okay, if you're thinking of getting the golfer in your life golf balls as a Christmas gift, sneak a peak inside the ball compartment of their golf bag if you can. If not, you will seldom go wrong with Titleist balls, hats, towels or any other golf gear with the Titleist logo.

When it comes to golf balls, you can't go wrong with the Pro-V1 ball or Pro-V1x. These balls have a soft shell for landing softly on the green while they travel a long way off the tee when struck by a driver. Not Ted Kennedy. A golf driver, the "big dog", the longest club in the bag with a head the size of a Buick. A box of Pro-V1 or Pro-V1x won't be cheap, new ones go for anywhere from $25 a dozen on sale and up. Mostly up. If that's a little steep in this economy, you can check the used ball bin at Golf USA or other golf shop. They buy used balls that may have only been hit a time or two and are gathered up by the course or hustlers and sold back to golf shops. Golf USA sells these for around $6-7 a dozen. The thing is, unless you get to the bin before anyone else, there won't likely be any Pro-V's left. I know I wouldn't complain about getting Pro-V1's, even used Pro V-1s, as a golf Christmas gift.

When it comes to golf shoes, Footjoy is a popular brand and would make a good Christmas gift for any golfers. Get them waterproof if your golfer plays in any kind of weather. Some golfers turn up their noses at ball retrievers, thinking them to be for "hackers" only. However, if I'm paying the going rate for Pro-V1 golf balls, a ball retriever that extends at least 12 feet is a must. You can even buy a combination of a ball retriever and umbrella for around $30-40. Not a bad golf Christmas gift.

All weather golf gloves make a good gift for golfers who play year-round. They reduce the sting of hitting a ball off frozen ground and keep the hands warm at the same time. Unlike most gloves which are worn only on one hand, these gloves come in sets for wearing on both hands. There are wet weather golf gloves which actually improve the grip after becoming wet, unlike leather golf gloves.

If the golfer in your life collects logo balls or keeps special golf balls in a case, glass enclosed ball display cases are available for anywhere from $40 on up. These cases hold 40 or more golf balls typically.

Another good Christmas gift for golfers are the pullover golf windbreakers for year round golfers. As stated earlier, any Titleist logo item is good. if the recipient of your Christmas gift uses Callaway clubs or Cobra, Ping or whatever, many golfers wear logo items on the course even though they don't get them free or get paid for endorsements like the pros.

Unless you know of a specific golf bag or clubs that your golfer has a stated preference for, it would be best to steer clear of these items. Golfers are very picky about those things.

If your golfer likes to walk on the course, a pull cart might be just the thing. For most of us on the north side of 40 years old, lugging a heavy golf bag up and down slopes is murder on the back. Especially since even the best golf shoes are not the most comfortable footwear to walk in. 18 holes of golf is roughly 3 miles, I believe it is, so a pull cart might be just the thing to score as a golf Christmas gift. the two wheeled carts go for $40 and up to $100 or so. If you're budget allows for spending that much, you may as well get a three wheeled pull cart for $100 and up, depending on how many bells and whistles it has. Most pull carts fold down small enough to fit in most car trunks these days.Using a pull cart has the added plus of saving money on cart fees.

Another idea for a Christmas gift for golfers is a rangefinder or GPS device, if you have the money in your budget. Some golf courses have built in GPS devices in their golf carts, but in this area, most do not. These devices can tell the distance to the green from most anywhere, a must if your ball is out of the fairway. Just be prepared to spend a minimum of a couple of hundred dollars or more.

These are a few ideas for Christmas gifts for golfers. All of these items are available at golf outlets such as Golf USA and are usually better quality than a similar item you would find at Wal-Mart or any other discount store. A wide array of golf items for Christmas gifts are available at online stores such as the golf warehouse. Of course, if you order from one of these sites, you must order earlier to allow for 2-3 weeks shipping time at Christmastime. Even if you don't buy anything online, you can get many good ideas for Christmas gifts for golfers. Most of the items will be available at Golf USA or most other golf shops.
