Christmas Gift Ideas for Kids to Make

ED Watts
Just because a child doesn't have much money to buy gifts doesn't mean he can't give them. All it takes is a little creativity and guidance and your child can make gifts for family and friends. Let your child try one or more of the following Christmas gift ideas.

Coupon Book

Materials needed: paper, stapler, crayons/markers.

Instructions: Cut several slips of paper the same size and write what the coupon is for on each slip (shoveling snow, washing dishes, etc.). Decorate a cover for the coupon book, and then staple the cover and coupons together.

This is a nice gift for a child to give because it is easy for him to put together and it requires him to do things to help someone else.

Mixed CD

Materials needed: blank CD, computer that has CD burning software, CDs, markers/crayons.

Instructions: Have your child take out his CD collection or the family CD collection and make a list of songs to put on the blank CD for ____ (Mom, Dad, etc.). Follow the instructions for the CD burning software and burn songs onto the blank CD. After burning the CD, your child can decorate the case insert using markers or crayons.

Bookmark

Materials needed: cardboard, markers/crayons, decorative items (glitter, stickers, etc.).

Instructions: Cut out a piece of cardboard appropriately sized for a book and decorate.

This is an easy gift for a child to make and it is also serves a practical purpose. A child will also have fun decorating the bookmark, as the possibilities for decoration are endless.

Paper Weight

Materials needed: A rock, paint, and paintbrush.

Instructions: Find a larger, smooth rock and paint it.

This is a nice practical gift to receive and really lets the child get creative with his painting abilities. This activity is ideal for young children.

Pen/Pencil Cup

Materials needed: Plastic cup, paper, scissors, glue, and markers/crayons/paint.

Instructions: Wrap a piece of paper around a plastic cup and trim off the excess paper. Place the paper on a flat surface and decorate the paper using markers, crayons, or paint. If paint is used, let the paper dry, then put glue on the back of the paper and wrap the paper around the cup.

A younger child will need help with this, especially cutting the paper the appropriate size. This is a nice gift for a child to make because it as it lets him tailor the gift to the recipient.

Looking for a great gift idea or stocking stuffers for family and friends, the new fantasy novel, "Gateway to DreamWorld," was released last month and has been receiving rave reviews.

During the cold months ahead, they will curl up in a warm blanket or in front of the fireplace and enter a fantasy world filled with excitement and suspense.

The book is listed on Amazon.com, Barnes&Nobles.com, and Powell's Books.com
