Recorded in Knoxville, Tennessee, at Apeville Studios, the album features an array of original and cover Holiday tunes performed and arranged by Scott Miller. Christmas Gift is an ode from Miller to personal remembrances of the joyous season along with displaying unique sounds from influential artists' original Holiday classics. Recommended tracks on the album include Miller's cover versions to "Joyful, Joyful", "Star of Bethlehem", and his original song "Yes, Virginia".

Throughout Christmas Gift, Scott Miller was able to incorporate his personal style into a host of Holiday Cover tunes including the Holiday classic "Joyful, Joyful". Originally written in 1907 by Poet Henry van Dyke, Miller transformed the Poem into a beautiful instrumental arrangement collaborating alongside former V-Roy band member/Banjo player John Taylor. Miller described the cover tune as "'Dueling Banjos' meets Ludwig van Beethoven". Originally recorded in 1977 on singer Neil Young's album American Stars 'n Bars, "Star of Bethlehem" was an ode from Scott Miller to Neil Young as Miller would perform the emotional ballad at his annual Christmas show held every year during the month of December in Johnson City, Tennessee.

In his original track "Yes, Virginia", Scott Miller uses a fast and upbeat tempo to resemble the happy and joyous occasion of the Holiday season. Throughout the song, Miller reminisces on family memories which is evident within the lyrics such as, "...grandparents come, I feel so lucky/From Pennsylvania and Kentucky/And Virginia/Oh yes, Virginia/My favorite aunt/my brother's nice/my sister's cool/She drove in last night.../" Miller discussed the lyrics behind the song quoting "Yes, Virginia" as a song giving remembrance during "special times" to his family while, "...on a Cattle farm in the MIDDLE OF NOWHERE..." Throughout the song, Miller was able to use personal thoughts to create this inspiring Holiday tune.

Throughout his music, Scott Miller is able to speak thoughtful and meaningful words through his lyrics and songs. Listeners are able to experience feelings of laughter, remembrance, and happiness while listening to Miller's music. Christmas Gift is another indication of the enormous talent and musical influence Miller has within the music industry.
