Christmas Gifts for Your Dog

Erin Duff
For many dog owners, Christmas isn't just for their two-legged friends. Along with gifts under the tree for children, family, and friends, Fido might have a few gifts as well. If you're looking for a few gifts to give your dog during the holidays, here are some ideas:

#1: Check out your local PetSmart, or order from www.PetSmart.com. I found several fun gifts for dogs in their holiday gift section, and a few favorites include the following: PetHoliday squeaky gift toys, candy cane plush toys, PetHoliday Plush Wooly Snowflake Bone Dog Toy, and the PetHoliday Bone with Rope Dog Toy. All of these toys cost from $3.99-$7.99, and are good for fetch or tug-of-war. There are appropriate sized toys for small and large dogs, and all are safe for dogs to play with. PetSmart also has other holiday gift ideas, including holiday collars, rubber balls, and dog treats that are shaped like Christmas cookies but are safe for your dog to eat.

#2: Wal-Mart has stocking stuffers for dogs, typically between $5 and $10 per stocking. They are color-coordinated and include a ball, 2-3 plush toys, a rubber squeaky toy, and sometimes a bone. This is a good option if you're traveling over the holidays with your dog, as it comes pre-packaged and is easy to carry. There are also several Christmas-themed rubber balls, plush balls, bones, and even have Santa Claus frisbees for your dog to enjoy.

#3: Target is another good place to shop your for dog. There is a limited selection, but the selections are of good quality. The gifts include a doggy fun box, frisbees, plush toys, Gnawhide rings, dancing dog toys, and exercise balls.

#4: Want to order unique gifts online? There are several options to do so, including websites that have gourmet dog treats, plush toys, Santa hats, coats, and sweaters, if your dog prefers to be pampered. Check out www.funstufffordogs.com/Qstore/Qstore.cgi and www.bigpawdesigns.com/chdoggi.html for some unique ideas.

Whatever treat you choose to give your dog will be appreciated, whether it's during the holiday season or anytime during the year. The key is to ensure that the toys are safe for the dogs, and that you buy something that interests your dog. There are also some toys that donate part of their proceeds to charities for animals, and that makes your purchase even more special. If you don't have a dog, consider donating toys to a local dog shelter. Either way, you'll make a special dog very happy!
