Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 -
Tony Hawk, with doubt, brought skateboarding to the masses and Hawk has had tremendous success with his video game series. I first started playing this with my Nintendo 64 game system and I have been following it since on my Playstation system.
The previous PlayStation installments of the game were masterpieces in their own right and raised the bar for this 2001 release. The graphics on this game are amazing and with eight levels of bustling traffic and annoyed people you are sure to find hours of enjoyment with this game. This game even has more diverse customized characters and was the first PS2 game to be brought online.
Amplitude -
One thing that always bothered me about this game was that people would call it a Guitar Hero knock-off. If anything this game helped opened the door for Guitar Hero. Sometimes game developers create a game that is just a knock off of a previous title, but with this game it is unique to itself. This game is even easy for those who are rhythm and beat challenged.
With Amplitude the user has the ability to mix and remix songs from a large number of genres, such as techno and alternative, pushing the game play established by its predecessor, FreQuency. Amplitude also took part in the online PS2 world by letting its players create remixes online for other players to explore, as well as creating a exceptionally good chat and ranking system. Hitting notes on a descending track with a DualShock was never fun, until Amplitude came along.
Resident Evil 4 -
The Resident Evil series has always been a favorite of mine with the PlayStation. The graphics on this game were amazing with number 1 and just got better and better with each game. The game itself is fast paced and if you aren't careful may scare you with a monster coming out of nowhere.
Leon's journey to find the president's daughter takes him up against chainsaw-wielding villagers and massive monsters. This game will also keep you on your toes with quick, key action moments requiring random button presses to keep the player from dying. Death could be anywhere around the corner and you needed to be prepared.
Number 4 also provides additional weapons and side missions ensuring enjoyment for anyone playing. Resident Evil 4 is one of those games that any action players would love to play in dark room, begging to be scared again and again.
Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas -
Another game I really enjoy is the Grand Theft Auto series. Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas was my favorite by far and really is one of the most evolved sequels in the series. This version boasts revamped and more responsive game play mechanics, brand new vehicle physics, a ton of upgradeable skills, more than 100 different missions, and some of the best production values I have seen.
This game even has a two-person multi player function to make it even more fun. People have also used PS2's online world as a source to post tricks and even video's they have made to popular songs and even episodes of The Family Guy. This game should be at the top of any players list who enjoys action video games.
Guitar Hero -
No game rocks more than Guitar Hero. The series has quickly become one of the biggest fan-favorites ad has a very strong and dedicated following. The game is enjoyed by players young and old. Even if you have no idea how to play guitar you can easily play Guitar Hero. I have yet to try part 3 but I can tell you that even if you get parts 1 and 2 you will be spending hours enjoying it. It is one of my favorite games to play not only because of the music but because of the challenge of it.
Part simulation and part arcade-rhythm game, Guitar Hero lets you strap on a Gibson and rock out to classic tunes. The entire package can get pretty pricey, but for the serious music or gaming fan it may be worth it.
God of War -
One of the best games made for Playstation in terms of visuals and high quality graphics, this game really shows off what the system is capable of. The story behind the game is easy to follow and allows the player to get into the game quickly. Set in Green mythological times, you follow the characters as they battle monsters and flying creatures.
This game is highly recommended for anyone who is looking for a classic PS2 game but also looking for a really good challenge at the same time.
