When I was a child Christmas was the best, I had 4 sisters and one brother, That feeling a child gets when the Christmas holiday is coming soon, The happy I can't sleep the hugs and kindness that everyone gets, Every Christmas holiday three nights before the family all went shopping to get the Christmas cookie supplies we all knew what we wanted to make and couldn't wait to get home, we would get all the chores done, eat dinner and get the kitchen ready the 3 younger of the 4 sisters did this with mother , I was the youngest we all had a job to do, one got the bowls , mixer, spoons etc... one got the books and the other got the supplies out, we made the cookies and had dad sample them as he sat watching TV relaxing. On the eve of Christmas mom would start making popcorn for the popcorn balls she would use the powder of jello and mix with marshmallow to pore over the popcorn, we all buttered up our hands and made these great flavored popcorn balls then would wrap them up in wrap, the balls were green and red yummy, we would all get cleaned up and us younger girls all slept in one room because we still knew of Santa, it was so hard to sleep but before bed dad would put the TV on the news channel when back then the weather man had the map that showed Santa and his sleigh and about how close he was to our city we would dance around so excited and then couldn't sleep it would get later and we would hear a large thump outside mom would rush into our room and say did you girls hear that? your dad just went outside to see what was out there, dad would come in all cold rubbing his hands," Well girls Santa was here he must have known you Lil ladies were awake yet because he left, get your coats on and come look he took us to the yard and in the snow were large boot prints, sled prints and deer prints, then we thought it was real , what dad did for us to make it so more exciting, we we rushed back to bed because dad said he would be back. Then morning came of course it was still dark out we would peek out the door waiting to hear dads voice say well girls ya coming out? Santa was here and it looks like you were very good, we would run out there and on our way you could smell candy in the air and fruit, mom had bowls of candy and fruit every where the stockings would be bulging with treats and gifts and Santa had eaten his cookies and milk, the tree was so beautiful, dolls with big red ribbons on them under the tree stuffed Teddy's, roller skates , ice skates and so many wrapped gifts out to the floor, we try to make every Christmas special the way mom and dad did to keep that spirit alive and my older kids do the same that I did that my mother did.
keep the memories alive and pass them on MERRY CHRISTMAS
