Christmas in July: Shop Early for Best Christmas Savings

Christmas in July isn't just a fun event or party idea: it can be an excellent way for you to pocket some real holiday savings. And while you may not be in the Christmas mindset, holiday savings abound in the off season if you're willing to starting your Christmas shopping in July.

If you're looking for toys this holiday season, Target typically offers great Christmas in July toy savings. Target toy clearance reductions are up to 75% during the summer as the company looks to move brand-name merchandise in anticipation of the coming holidays. Toys 'R Us also offers awesome off season deals on toys ranging from wooden trains to Barbies, with a lot of the best deals also coming in the summer.

The trick to this Christmas in July shopping approach for toys is that some of the sales are on last year's hottest trends. For example, I've racked up great deals on toys including Dora's Magical Castle and TMX Elmo, but always in the summer following the height of their success. When you're dealing with younger kids, this usually isn't a huge deal, but is something to keep in mind if you're shopping for specific items or the latest trends or gadgets.

Of course, Christmas in July shopping isn't just for toys. Borders stores always have a great bargain books section, but summer is a great time to start thinking ahead on books for holiday gifts. The outlet mall is also an excellent idea for early holiday shopping as much of the merchandise is off season anyways, allowing you to potentially pick up some great sweaters and jackets from stores including Banana Republic, The Gap, and Eddie Bauer at value prices. Some outlet malls also have Christmas-focused stores featuring ornaments, trees, and all of the other trimming open all year, enticing shoppers to get into the holiday spirit (and also serving as a top source for Christmas in July merchandise).

Beyond the great prices, through, Christmas in July shopping allows you to get out and buy while the weather is still warm and the crowds are low. Christmas in July shopping may also be great for your budget as early shopping allows you to spread your spending over time (not too mention the great off season deals that you'll be getting). And think of how great you'll feel in December when your Christmas shopping is not only done, but you've saved money in the process.
