The 18th Annual Holiday Festival of Lights is at James Island County Park. It begins November 12, 2007 and runs through January 1st, 2008. It's a three mile tour with a huge variety of lighting designs and over a million lights. Besides driving along the tour there is a Lakeside Lights Activity Center in which you can create your own lighting designs and participate in other activities. There will also be a marshmallow roast and a 54 person train ride through the lights. If you'd like to work off some of the holiday goodies and marshmallows you can walk through the Enchanted Forest. If you want to tour the festival of lights in your own car it is $10 and the train ride costs $2 per person. Children two and under are free if seated in an adult's lap. If you would like more information call 843-795-4Fun.
The 28th Holiday Boat Parade is on December 1st,, 2007, from 5pm-8pm. The boats are decorated in elaborate light designs and look beautiful against the dark sky and reflected in the water. Adding to the excitement of the event is the fireworks display that begins at approximately 6:30 pm.
The boats begin their parade in Mt. Pleasant and then float through the Charleston Harbor and end at the Ashley River. The boats start at approximately 5:30 pm but because of weather, tide and wind it's hard to predict the exact time they will appear in the Charleston Harbor or Ashley River, so it's a good idea to get there a little bit early. This is also true because there are some premiere spots from which to view the parade and they fill up rather quickly. If you would like more information call 843-724-7305.
Another great annual event is the North Charleston Christmas Lighting, Festival and Parade at Park Circle, North Charleston. It is takes place on December 1st from 4:30 pm until 9 pm. There will be many dozens of lighted Christmas trees decorated by local businesses, churches, schools, and other members of the community. There will also be visits with Santa and Mrs. Claus, hayrides, pony rides, and the yearly Christmas parade. If you would like more information call 843-745-1087.
If you live in Charleston, SC or plan to visit during the holiday season then check out one or all of these great Christmas light displays and events. You'll enjoy the beautiful lights and other fun holiday activities without having to be the one to take down the lights! Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays.
