Christmas Lights Around Allen, TX

Must See Christmas LIghts in Allen

Harold Dean Sink
Many people who drive through Allen, Texas either on their way into McKinney, Frisco, Plano, Fairview, or Lucas may find it hard to believe that there are professional Christmas light displays in Allen.

The first one that comes to mind is the one across from City Hall on McDermott Drive welcoming in westward traveling people to Allen. It is rather hard to miss this off-road sign as it stands nearly 20 feet tall and is just a bit wider.

One of the newer displays in town is the Christmas light display set up off Stacey Road on the east side of highway 75. This is the newest addition to Allen. With over twenty new stores and restaurants on this southeast corner, one can drive in to visit Santa Clause in this courtyard with its professionally lit area.

Of course, if you want to see "The Griswald's" home, you need to head east on Exchange Parkway, and make a right on Country Lane. Just a few houses down on the left and one will find the most lit house in Allen. At least, you would think so when you see it.

Allen, Texas actually does have professional Christmas light installers who go to great lengths to fulfill their client's desires in lighting. An area most visited in Allen is what is called Twin Creeks.

You can get there quicker by taking the McDermott Drive exit off of highway 75, and head west. There will be four or five traffic lights to go through to get to Lakeway Drive. Turn right and meander through the streets.

Be careful to stop for stop signs that show up unexpectedly. Please drive slowly as children are abundant in this area. You will get most of your oohs and aahs in this area.

These homes are maybe not what one would consider professional light displays, but once you see them you will be amazed at what imagination both residents and the professional installers have come up with.

The City Hall east of highway 75 is quite the show. Many Allen residents come out to this area when the City Hall has their Christmas celebration in December. People will come out and visit with one another. Children get freebies from Santa. There is no cost in showing up.

Coming in from the south of Allen, one will see Allen's 50 foot long Christmas Welcome sign. Just after that are a couple of businesses that have lit displays that are worth taking pictures.

Allen is a small community in comparison to Plano. Therefore, there are not many "professional" displays of Christmas lights. It's not like Dallas, Fort Worth or Austin, Texas. Nor is it like parts of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

With the locations given to you, you will find your tour of Allen, Texas to be a delightful one. Be prepared to bring a video camera if your regular camera will not take good pictures of Christmas lights. You could fill a few picture albums with all you find in Allen, Texas in professional Christmas lighting.
