Christmas Memories

Diane Zoller-Ciatto
1950's times were tough
But that fact I never knew
We got by on what we had
It's what you call "make do!"

But Santa came to visit us
What a joyous treat
No cookies and milk for us to leave
The man needed warmth and to eat!

So before bed each Christmas Eve
We'd prepare for His Nibs
A shot of whiskey to keep him warm
And a sandwich to stick to his ribs!

And in return he brought me gifts
Like Tinkertoys and skates
A Candyland and checker game
To enjoy with my playmates!

Memories of simpler times
When Christmas started in December
It was a time of peace and love
That I always will remember!

The childhood memories always remain the sweetest in our lives, despite some reverses that make the positives all the more enjoyable. A beautiful take indeed, Diane - siva
