There is nothing like Christmas music that puts people in the spirit of Christmas! Sounds of bells, choirs, and carols usher the general public into December bliss filled with presents, parties, decorations, friends and family reunions, dinner feasts, and more. This year, let the sounds of Christmas spur you to reflect, smile, dance, or cry as December 25th quickly approaches. In the Toledo area, there are several events that are open to the public and do not require an admission cost.

First, the Toledo First Seventh Day Adventist Church is hosting Toledo's fifth anual Messiah Sing-Along. This unique event will allow you to hum the familiar tunes of Handel that have become staple pieces during the Christmas season. This event is held at the church, located on 4909 Sylvania Avenue in Toledo, Ohio. This is a one time performance with soloists and choir, performed on Sunday, December 14 at 7:00 pm. For more information, you can visit messiahsing.com.

Secondly, Monclova Road Baptist Church hosts their annual Christmas cantata on December 21 at 6:00 pm. The church is located at 7819 Monclova Rd. in Monclova, Ohio. This year, the title of the program is Christmas Joy: Our Light Has Come. The choir is led by Dan DeFrience who received his Master's in Music Education from the University of Toledo. Using the adult and children's choirs, this will be a good event for the entire family. The church website is monclovabaptist.org.

Also, Dayspring Assembly in Bowling Green, Ohio performs an annual production entitled, The Gospel According to Scrooge. This fully staged musical is fun for the whole family with elaborate costumes, special effects, and great music. This show runs December, 5,6,7,12, 13, and 14. The doors open at 6:15 pm, so you can get a seat. The actual musical begins at 7:00 pm. For more information about this musical, the church website is dayspringassembly.org.

Some other places that you can look for Christmas concerts are at the local universities. Oftentimes, they have Christmas ensemble, choral, band, and orchestral groups that present concerts and Christmas music. At the University of Toledo, the UT Choir & Symphony Orchestra are performing a combined concert on December 7 at 3:00 pm. This event is free to the public as well and is located in Univeristy Hall in the Doermann Theatre on the main campus. The UT webite is utoledo.edu. Also, you may want to check out events at Bowling Green State University. Their web address is bgsu.edu.

Get in the spirit of Christmas as you enjoy some free Christmas music events that the Toledo area has to offer. Many other churches and schools in the area have events going on throughout December, so you should not be at a loss this holiday season. Go and enjoy the sounds of Christmas!
