One of the best aspects of Christmastime is enjoying the scenery, decorations, parades an overall Christmas cheer.

Here, I'll describe several parades an events going on throughout Philadelphia and South Jersey, in which you can attend to get into the full Christmas spirit.

1. Philadelphia Christmas Parade

The Philadelphia Christmas Parade is an annual event, taking place this year on Monday, December 6th at 6PM in downtown Philadelphia. It is sponsored by the Philadelphia Main Street Association.

This year's theme is "Sounds of the Seasons." The parade begins on Poplar Avenue, goes west on main street, turns onto Byrd Avenue, continues east on Beacon, goes north onto Church and continues west on Myrtle. It ends at Philadelphia High School.

To enter to be in the parade, an entry fee of $5 needs to be handed in by November 12th. Anything handed in past that date will be charged a $10 late fee, and no entries will be considered after December 2nd. Awards will be given for categories of Civic, Youth, Religious and Commercial. A mayor's award will also be given for the best float overall. All entries should be prepared and lined up at 5PM, and the judgments of floats will be made there. Awards will be given as entries pass the main stage.

On the entry form, people must specify what organization or event they are representing, a description of the float, and whether they will be using a float, motorcycle, car, truck, 18-wheeler, or whether they'll be walking. No horses or bikes are allowed. Entries are also asked not to throw candy or give anything out to the crowd as they pass. Children should be accompanied by an adult, and entries should try to carpool together when coming to the parade. Entries are also asked not to park at Philadelphia High School nor travel south on Poplar Avenue before the parade starts. Wagons are allowed if someone age thirteen or older is pulling it. Also please have your lineup number and name of organization displayed on your float so judges can see it.

In Mt. Ephraim, NJ, children can experience lunch with Santa at 12PM-2PM on Sunday, November 28th. It is sponsored by the Mt. Ephraim Ladies Department Auxiliary, the Mt. Ephraim Celebration Committee and the Mt. Ephraim Fire Department.

For $4, parents can bring their kids to meet Santa while making a holiday craft. Also included in the cost is a dessert, chips, juice and a hotdog, with any additional hotdogs costing only $1. Parents are encouraged to bring a camera to take pictures.
