Christmas Party Games for Children and Adults

Mary Anne
Party games at a Christmas or holiday gathering make the event memorable and fills time so that everyone has a good time. These are some all time favorites and sure-fire winner games.

Steal It-Adult Office Party Game

One of my favorite Christmas office party games for adult is "Steal It." The game begins with everyone in attendance receiving a number. The party hostess draws numbers from a jar or festive dish. The Christmas gifts sit on the table with the hostess and are assigned numbers. As each gift is claimed by the party goers, the option is to take the gift assigned the number or steal the gift from someone who has already drawn a gift.

This game has some remarkable outcomes. Some people whom you would not expect get a little testy when their gift is stolen. It is funny to see the expressions on people's face when the game is being played. The good part is everyone gets a gift to go home with.

Feliz Navidad Pinata

The colorful celebration of Feliz Navidad can be celebrated with children and adults alike. I have made pinatas with a variety of supplies. It is paper mache and can be a burro, a star, or Christmas character. All you need are wire hangers to make the frame and then cover it with newspapers and homemade paste. I have used the old stand by flour, paste and some salt.

Kids love to make these items and your imagination can go wild in making the Christmas pinata. Make sure you cut a hole in the pinata so you can fill it with candy or trinkets. Painting the pinata is fun. I use standard dime store poster paint and really go to town with colors and glitter. Anything goes with the Christmas pinata. Let is stand for at least two days to dry before the holiday bash. If you would like to buy a pinata from a store the cost is about $10.

I have filled the pinata with candy, small toys, small personal items like Chapstick, and silly toys. The fun begins at the Christmas party when each child is blindfolded and given a broom stick or some type of stick and tries to knock a hole in the suspended Christmas pinata. Kids and adults alike have a great time. Everyone gets a surprise when the pinata breaks and the contents go flying every where.

Christmas Cookie Design Contest

This game is fun for kids, but I have found adult like it just as much. All you need is some large sugar cookie that you can make or buy. If you can find them in Christmas shapes like snow flakes or reindeers, so much the better.

I set up a table and cover it with a washable tablecloth. I have a Christmas scene, but any design will do. I place a variety of colored, powdered sugar and water pastes in enough bowls for everyone to dip in to.

I then have a variety of decorations that any bakery supply store has or most supermarkets. The confetti one is a favorite as the small silver and gold balls. There are red-hot drops and green glitter or any variety you choose.

At the end of the contest, everyone displays their decorated cookie and everyone is a winner. It is fun and the game encourages creativity and cooperation in the process. Each guest has something to take home or save for after the party. This game is a real hit with family gatherings.
