Christmas Party Games for the Whole Family

Jennifer Wagner

Each year our family hosts the annual family Christmas dinner. To add a bit of excitement to the night, we came up with fun Christmas party games that the entire family can enjoy. Add these family party games to your holiday celebration and create new memories.

Present 'Unwrapping' Game

The object of this Christmas party game is simple. Be the first person to unwrap a Christmas present. But, there's a catch...

To prepare for this party game, you will need a box of the same size for each guest and LOTS of wrapping paper, lots of tape, and ribbon! Each box gets wrapped and rewrapped, and wrapped again with several layers of paper. TAPE, TAPE, AND MORE TAPE! Each layer of paper should be very difficult to unwrap. In between layers, you can also tie ribbon around the package to create a barrier that will be difficult to get through.

When guests realize that this Christmas party game isn't as easy as they thought, the look on their faces is priceless!

Pin the Nose on Rudolph

Get the kids involved with this fun Christmas party game. Grab a sheet of poster board and let one of the more artistic children draw a large picture of Rudolph on the board. Then, cut out red circles out of construction paper and write the name of each guest on a nose.

The object of this game is simple. Blindfold the guest, place a glue-dot or tape circle on the back of the red circle, and have them try to pin the nose on Rudolph. When everyone is finished, the person who has the closest circle to the nose wins the game!

Christmas Movie Quote Game

My family enjoys tossing movie quotes back and forth, and we try to stump each other with which movie the quote came from. This was the inspiration for this fun Christmas party game.

To prepare, go on the Internet and print off a bunch of different movie quotes from Christmas movies. On a separate sheet, write the movies that each quote is from. Then, cut out the quotes and place them in a bowl or hat.

To play this game, each person draws out a quote and tries to name where the movie it came from. If they get it wrong, or don't know the answer, they're out of the game. If they get it right, they move on to Round 2. Keep going until only one person remains - this person is the winner!

Christmas Word Unscramble

All you'll need to do to prepare for this Christmas party game is think of Christmas related words. Then, either write or type them down in a scrambled order. Make enough copies of the list for each guest. At the party, guests will try to unscramble the words and whoever gets them all done first is the winner.

Some words to include in your Christmas word unscramble may include:

Stocking - gkotsinc
Lights - glitsh
Santa - ansat
Presents - srntpese

You get the picture! Think of many different Christmas words and scramble them up.

Stocking Guessing Game

For this game, go to the Dollar Store and buy one inexpensive stocking for each guest. Then, fill each one with 5 - 6 items. You could use a deck of cards, a pen, a candy cane, a pack of gum, or any number of different items.

The object of this Christmas party game is to see who can correctly guess what is inside the stocking without looking. Guests will have to feel through the stocking to try to decide what's in it.
