Christmas Party Ideas for Kids

Christmas is a magical time for kids. Having a Christmas party for children is exciting and fun for everyone involved. It can be done with not too much expense (think Dollar Tree Stores!) and can put smiles on all those cute little faces!

Your own children can help create fun invitations. Get ideas of the Internet for designs, and even free cards you can just download and print out! Construction paper and markers add some glitter, and your child will be well on his or her way to designing wonderful Christmas party invitations!

Decorations

For an inexpensive but fun decoration, you can create a large fireplace scene on a wall. Using red art paper or butcher paper, design the background of bricks. On top of that use black art paper in the middle area to create the fireplace center. Shape red wrapping tissue into the shape of tongs to have the illusion of the flames. Roll brown construction paper into logs for the fireplace. Complete the setting with small stockings taped on with each child's name on them.

Make snowflakes using white cardstock or any construction type paper. Hang from the ceiling at different lengths.

Have Frosty the "balloon" Snowman greet the children at the door. Using white balloons of three different sizes, you can form the snowman shape. Use markers, gently, to draw facial features on the balloon face, and buttons on the body. Place a black hat on the top balloon.

Have bunches of red, green, gold, and silver balloons all over.

Candy cane cardboard cut outs are easy to make and fun to decorate with.

Games for the Christmas Party:

You can take some traditional party games and reinvent them into Christmas party games very simply.

Pin the Nose on Santa: A cutout of Santa, minus a nose, and this is a Christmas version of Pin the Tail on the Donkey!

Musical Chairs can be played with a Christmas song.

Simon Says can become "Santa Says".

Relay Christmas Stocking Game: Divide the children into teams. At one end of the room hang two large Christmas stockings. Have two bowls of Christmas candy, one bowl by each team. Using a spoon, each child takes a turn scooping candy, walking quickly to the stocking, putting the candy in, and returning to their team. First team to fill their stocking wins.

A fun game to have the kids play is a circle game using the story: Twas The Night Before Christmas". The children all sit in a circle. A wrapped or can be unwrapped gift is placed in someone's hands. As an adult reads the story, the person holding the gift must pass it to the next person when the word "THE" is mentioned as the story is read.

It can be any word that is used, but try to pick a word that comes up frequently. Last person holding the gift at the end of the story gets to keep the gift.

Crafts for the Christmas Party (can become party mementos to take home):

Christmas Mittens:

Buy inexpensive mittens or gloves.

Supply glitter stickers, beds rings, etc...

Let the kids decorate their gloves and take home.

Christmas Cookies:

You can have sugar cookies ready to be decorated, warm out of the oven and already cut in various Christmas shapes.

Supply all the icing and decorations, and let the kids decorate their own cookies (good to have at least 4-5 cookies per child). Have decorated boxes or bags for taking their cookie masterpieces home in.

Jingle Bell Bracelets:

Put out bowls of jingle bells and satin ribbon. Children will love creating a jingle bell bracelet as a keepsake. Tip*--- boys may be reluctant but you can tell them it can be a gift for mom when it is done!

Christmas is all about kids and fun. Planning and having a children's Christmas party just adds to the excitement that is already in the air. Kids love parties, and Christmas Parties are sure favorites!
