Christmas Party Planning Idea: Save Money While You Live the Good Life

Megan Butler
The Christmas season is quickly approaching and its time to come up with budget Christmas party planning ideas. This holiday season, everyone is busy thinking about their shrinking budgets. So, why not give your guests a taste of better times with a Good Life themed Christmas party? You don't have to break the bank, and you can remind all of your friends that better times are surely coming.

Invitations

The right Christmas invitation sets the tone for any Christmas party. And Tiny Prints invitations specializes in sheik invitations that will let your friends and family know that this will be a high class affair. Tiny Prints is reasonably priced, and they give discounts on holiday orders when you buy in bulk (for other Christmas party invitation dealers, check out this article).

Make sure your invitations let your guests know that this Christmas party will be a Hollywood glam affair so they should dress to impress.

Decorations

The music is the most important decoration when planning a Good Life Christmas party. Make sure you have a mix of jazz, blues, classic Christmas songs and other styles of music that say money. Set to this music, your well dressed guests and high class hors d'oeuvres will set the tone of the party, so you can crack out last year's decorations and put that extra money back into your pocket.

But if you're budget has some breathing room, invest in white and silver Christmas party decorations. Buy a white Christmas tree and decorate it with silver and green ornaments. Hang silver tinsel and holly wreaths.

Food

Set out your Christmas party's spread on a white tablecloth. Instead of paper plates and cutlery, consider going with real dishware. There are many rental places that offer rates as cheap as $.30 per item per day. And renting for a party of 50 will only cost you around $50.

Think luxury when planning the hors d'oeuvres for the Christmas party. Caviar doesn't have to be expensive. You can get nearly a pound of Avruga Caviar for around $50. And include items like stuffed mushrooms, Prosciutto wrapped melon, an assortment of cheese and meats, canapes and crostini. Coconut Macaroons, chocolate mousse in martini glasses and trifles make great deserts.

Go with traditional drinks: eggnog and champagne. Place the eggnog in a cut-glass bowl and have champagne flutes already set out so your guests don't know you saved money with a discount brand.

Activities

Name that Millionaire:

Make two sets of cards. One with pictures of rich celebrities, and the other with each celebrity's net worth. Make sure that you have enough celebrity/net worth pairs so that each of your guest will have one card. Hand them to your guests as they come in so they will have time to pair up before you announce the results

If I had a Million Dollars

One person begins by saying "If I had a million dollars, I would buy..." and then they say something that begins with the letter "a", For example: "If I had one million dollars I would buy an apartment building." Then the next person has to repeat what they said and then add another item that starts with the letter "b". For example: "If I had one million dollars, I would buy an apartment building and beachfront property." Then continue in the same fashion around the room. Whenever someone makes a mistake, they have to take a drink.
