Christmas Patchwork COOKIE Quilt

If you want to make something unusual this holiday season, try a Christmas Patchwork Cookie Quilt. This is basically a sugar cookie recipe made into a sugar quilt good enough to eat.

Ingredients:

1 ½ sticks of butter

1 ¼ cup sugar

1 egg

2 teaspoons vanilla

3 cups flour

½ teaspoon salt

Colored sugars or sprinkles, at least 4 colors (I recommend green, red, pink, yellow or light blue)

2 teaspoons water

Beat butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat egg and set 2 teaspoons aside. Mix remaining egg into mixture. Add vanilla. Stir in salt and flour and make a stiff dough.

Divide the dough in half. Roll out each half into a 9 by 12 cookie sheet. With a pastry wheel or safe straight instrument cut diamond patterns on the dough to resemble a quilt.

Combine the two teaspoons of egg and water in a cup. Brush it on top of cookie dough.

Sprinkle one color sugar on each diamond shape to resemble a quilt, Repeat with second dough.

Bake in pre-heated oven at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for 10 minutes.

Let this cool completely on rack for at least one hour. You can then remove it with a straight spatula and put on dish.

Guests will enjoy viewing this and once everyone has "oohed and aahed" over it. You can cut it and serve everyone a piece.

It's great because kids can chip in when decorating if you wish. You can serve this during the holiday or really any time you feel like it.
