Christmas Poem: A Wish for Hopeful Times

Jill P. Viers
A winter's wish for hopeful times

For glistening snow atop the high trees

Christmas lights shining brightly through the flakes

Loving families nestled around a burning fire

Families thankful for each other

And remembering the true reason for celebrating Christmas

Saying prayers of thanks and offering

Reindeer flying on Santa's sleigh

Hot chocolate and S'mores to munch on

Coffee occasionally filled with the Irish whiskey

Merrily pounding tunes on the piano

And gathering around to sing

As the carolers chime in on their voyage

The tall tree, whether artificial or real

Always makes a mess, but it's worth it

Presents and presence of love and life

Gifts given, magically awakening the night

Faith, hope, and love glimmer and shine

Slowing the problems, putting pain at bay

Feeling thankful for each breath

And each December 25th
