Christmas Poetry: The Night I Met Santa

A Christmas Poem About Holiday Spirit

Holly Matheson
This time of year, Christmas poetry is a favorite among many people who are seeking a little extra Christmas spirit. Sure, you can absorb plenty of holiday spirit from your favorite holiday foods, music and traditions, but Christmas poetry has a way of sparking a part of the imagination that warms the soul and enlightens the heart.

The windows were dusted with silvery flakes
dancing wildly on this windy Christmas Eve.
Lingering in the air, the sweet aroma
of gingerbread cookies and holiday cakes.

"Soon, my child, Santa must be nearby."
Mama whispers as I close my eyes.
And I drift into dreams
to the tender echo of a Christmas lullaby.

Sometime later I heard quite a crash,
a bang and a tumble with a jingle or two.
It had to be Santa, I had no doubt,
so I headed downstairs for a Christmas bash.

His smile was sincere, his heart full of gold;
We danced and we laughed, we told Christmas jokes.
At last Santa leaned unto me and these words, he spoke:
"Never be afraid to let your dreams unfold."

With a bang and a tumble, and a jingle or two,
he disappeared up the chimney, and I to my room.
As I closed my eyes, I heard Santa once more:
"The Christmas Spirit lies within you."
