You can make this simple gift tag project in less than 30 minutes. The materials should cost you about $10 or less and should be more than enough for all of your Christmas presents!
To Make These Simple Gift Tag Stamp You Will Need:
1 Linoleum Block
Ink Pad
Linoleum Cutting/ Craving Tools
White Paper
Pencil
Scissors
Now, at the end I will give a few simple tips for making this project out of some other materials you may have laying around the house, but for now, this craft process will focus on a linoleum block.
Linoleum blocks can be bought at an arts and craft store as well as any art supply store. They sort of look like those sanding blocks you find at home improvement stores. If you want to save money you can buy thin sheets of gray linoleum. They will work equally as well for this simple craft project as the linoleum block. Overall though, a small linoleum block about 3 inches by 4 inches should cost you about $2. A package of linoleum cutting tools should cost you about $6 to $8. It will come with a variety of tools.
First, draw out your gift tag shape on your white paper. Use the pencil. You basically want to create an outlined shape. This can be a rectangle, Christmas tree outline, star outline, oven a circle I recommend making this outlined shape about 3 inches by 4 inches.
Now, in the middle write the words "To:" and "From:" like you should normally find on a gift tag
Now, turn the paper over. Scribble on the back of the design with your pencil. Cover the entire area behind the tag drawing.
Now, flip the paper over and place it onto the linoleum block.
Trace the Christmas tag and the words "To:" and "From."
Now, you will see that the words have transferred to your linoleum block backwards. This is what you want. When you stamp and print it will be written in the correct direction.
Now, start carving away all white areas that you do not wan to show up on your nametag stamp.
Work carefully around your words so they are readable when you stamp the package.
Now, once all of your excess linoleum is removed, stamp the linoleum in the inkpad. Stamp it onto seem scrap paper to see if your Christmas gift tag looks right. If so, you are finished. If you need to make any touch ups, now is the time.
When you are pressing your linoleum stamp you should apply an even amount of pressure. You can play around with this on your scrap paper.
You can stamp this gift tag on all of your Christmas presents and then all you have do is write in your names!
Tips: You can add simple shapes, like stars and trees in side of this linoleum print gift tag as well.
If you wan to make this Christmas gift tag out of some household materials you could use a potato cut in half. Carve the designs into the potatoes and use it as a stamp. The potato will not last forever, so make it right before you need it.
A sponge is also a great product to make the gift tag stamp out of. You won't be able to make the words "To:" and "From:," but you can make the outline and then write those words in!
