Christmas Present Ideas for Firefighters - DVDs

Andrew Berry
Are you unsure of what to get your firefighter friend and/or family member for the upcoming holidays? Generally firefighters are very passionate about what they do - volunteer and paid alike. Every firefighter would love a fire engine-issued Q-Horn on their personal car, but we have to think real. So hit their heart this Christmas by getting firefighter-oriented gifts, such as some action-packed DVDs, convenient tools, and more.

DVD - Rescue Me Seasons 1/2/3/4 (Season 5 comes out in Spring 2009)

So far there has been four heart-wrenching series of the hit show "Rescue Me", starring Denis Leary as the courageous and heroic fireghter Tommy Gavin. Tommy and the other men of 62 Ladder roll onto the scene with lights and sirens, running into buildings with smoke billowing out of every single orifice and civilians laying unconsciously throughout the smoke-engulfed area. Also contained within "Rescue Me" is an array of drama - including family problems, drinking problems, women problem, and more - including drama within the firehouse itself.

Rescue Me is on FX. Look out for season 5 of Rescue Me in Spring of 2009.

DVD - Backdraft (1991)

Backdraft, releasted in 1991, is a movie about "...Two Chicago firefighter brothers who don't get along have to work together while a dangerous arsonist is on the loose" (www.imdb.com). The movie stars Kurt Russell as Stephen 'Bull' McCaffrey, William Baldwin as Brian McCaffrey, and Robert De Niro as Donald 'Shadow' Rimgale.

Backdraft is easily a prized-possession for any firefighter. The plot of Backdraft is golden, there's plenty of drama and action, as well as fire. Throughout the movie the plot contains a few twists as well, keeping you, the viewer, on your toes.

I also suggest getting the 2-disc Anniversary Edition for firefighters who happen to also be movie lovers.

DVD - Ladder 49 (2004)

According to www.imdb.com, the plot of Ladder 49 is:

"Under the watchful eye of his mentor Captain Mike Kennedy, probationary firefighter Jack Morrison matures into a seasoned veteran at a Baltimore fire station. Jack has reached a crossroads, however, as the sacrifices he's made have put him in harm's way innumerable times and significantly impacted his relationship with his wife and kids. Responding to the worst blaze in his career, he becomes trapped inside a 20-story building. And as he reflects on his life, now Assistant Chief Kennedy frantically coordinates the effort to save him". (www.imdb.com)

This movie shows the hardships that firefighters must endure while not only working, but while also dealing with family issues and so on. The main character is reminiscent about his life when he first joined the fire department as another Probie.
