Christmas Presents for Animal Lovers

DeeDee
It's not exactly headlines news that people truly love their pets. So if you are looking for a Christmas present to get someone and you know they have an animal, chances are they'll go ga-ga over something pet related. But what can you get them for Christmas? Here are a few great Christmas present ideas:

Sponsor a pet:
If the pet lover in your life really has a love for animals and likes to help them, then maybe the best idea is to sponsor a pet at a local animal shelter in their name. A small fee of around $25 will help feed an animal and provide some of their medical care if necessary. This is a great idea if someone wants to help an animal but can't afford to take on bringing them into their home. They'll be happy to know that a little furry life was improved.

Adopt a pet:
If you feel the animal lover in your life is ready for a new pet or maybe even an additional pet, then adopt a small puppy, kitten, or bunny rabbit. Place them in a roomy cage and place a fluffy bow around their neck. Give them to your friend or family member as soon as possible. They'll love you for it!

Dedicate a cage
Shelters are always in need more room and more cages. Dedicate a cage in your family member or friends name. A small plaque will be made and the animals that reside in that area will have you to thank.

Animal slippers
Ok, this will probably only works for the ladies for a Christmas present, but get your animal fan a pair of slippers with their favorite animal. Make sure they are as big and as fluffy as possible. They'll get a kick out of them even at 6 a.m. when they are tired and grumpy! I know I love my bunny slippers!

Animal ornaments
Hallmark and other Christmas stores offer ornaments in all shapes and sizes with animals on them. They bring a smile to the pet owners face and honors the little furry friend in their lives. The Hallmark ornament with Thumper bunny and his little honey are my Christmas list.

Dog handbags
I went to Macy's department store the other day and saw furry dogs in the handbag department. I was confused for a minute until I realized they were trendy handbags. They came in a variety of types and people were crowded around them like they were the best thing since sliced bread. They had a head, legs, a tail, and all. And they came in a cute little box that looked like a dog house. They would make a great gift for young teen aged girls. Other catalogs and websites such as Pet Lover Gifts, let you send in your favorite photo of your dog and they'll print it on a tote for a pricey fee.

Customized gift cards
Most stores are offering customized gift cards that allow you to download your favorite photo to be printed on the card. Get that for your favorite pet lover and not only will they have a little fun in the store of their choice, but they'll have a photo of their furry friend to keep in their wallet and flash to friends.

"Save My Pet" window cling
The Animal Rescue website is filled with gifts, pet, and non-pet related. One of their best offerings is the "Save My Pet" window cling that can be put on house doors or windows, or even car windows. In case of an emergency, the window cling lets emergency personnel know there is an animal that needs to be saved. The best part? The Animal Rescue will donate food to animal shelters with every purchase. The window cling will provide 14 bowls for needy animals.

Things for feathered friends
One of the best enjoyments I have is watching the wild birds outside of our French glass doors. We have what I like to call a "Birdie" buffet filled with a variety of bird seed and suet. If you know someone who loves birds as much as I do, put together your own Christmas gift filled with things for bird watchers. Start with a decorative bird bath and fill it with a book on bird types (make sure you buy one that is for your region), binoculars, suet, a bird house, a bird feeder, and bird seed. Not only will your Christmas gift recipient love it, the birds will too!

Merry Christmas!
