These are my favorite christmas cookies to make.
Ingredients:
1/2 cup (4 sticks) margarine or butter
2 - 8 oz. cream cheese, fat free
4 cups flour (wheat would be great too)
1 lb. ground walnuts
1 cup sugar
3/4 tsp. nutmeg
1/4 tsp. cinnamon
1/8 tsp. salt
Directions:
1. Soften and mix butter and cream cheese.
2. Add flour (use more, if needed, to make consistency of rollable dough) and CHILL (the dough;) You can chill for a bit too;)
3. Mix remaining ingredients = this is the filling.
4. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Then, Roll dough out semi-thin.
5. Spoon filling along dough*, roll this up and cut from remaining dough that you rolled.
6. Cut into 2 inch squares. I like to only add a little of the filling so I have room to close the ends.
7. Place in rows on ungreased cookie sheet.
8. Cook 10 min. or until dough is lightly browned.
Optional: Add confectionary sugar.
Add these to your other christmas cookies that you give to friends and family for all to enjoy!

Post a CommentI've been making this cookie since I was little. Sorry it didn't work for you but the recipe is correct.
This was the worst cookie we have ever made - nothing seemed to be right - from the butter to the fat free cream cheese, roll out semi thin dough??? dough was like rubber with horrible taste, filling is definitely missing something that holds it together. Please check your recipe and fix it!
This is actually a recipe from my grandma. My mom and I always made it together growing up. Mom is sure 1/2 cup = 1 stick. I googled and came up w/varying measurements and I have no butter at home to check the measurement with. So, I went to parkay ti validate: 1 cup Parkay® Original-stick, softened (1 cup = 2 sticks). Thanks though, Morgan...I actually think the butter could be cut down a bit..
This seems like a recipe like what my grandmother used but do you mean 4 sticks of butter or a 1/2 cup, because each stick is 1/4 cup.
Yep, these are dangerous...
