Christmas Releases Bring Families Together

Cuddle Up with a Good Book This Christmas Season

Carolyn R Scheidies
Christmas is a perfect time to snuggle up in a deep chair and read a book on a cold Winter's night or cuddle with a little one on your lap to read together. Here are some of the Christmas offerings this holiday season your family can enjoy together.

For the little ones, Kregel Publications released the full color picture book "Clopper and the Night Travelers" by Emily King. This story of the birth of Jesus tugs on the heartstrings of both parents and children. At Christmas time, it seems, parents are even more likely to read to their kids and what better story to read than the greatest story of all-the story of Jesus. This tale tells the true story from the viewpoint of a fictional donkey, Clopper. The story shows how God took care of Jesus, His Son, in extraordinary ways.

"Unwrapping Christmas," a book by Lori Copeland, deals with the business in our lives. In this story, Rose becomes so busy doing for others she's seldom home to fix meals, listen to her kids or spend time with her husband. Christmas has become a chore rather than a joy. How can she slow down when there are so very many needs?

Americans have become so busy we, often, lose what is most important. The book "Unwrapping Christmas" draws us back to simple truth of focusing on faith, family, rest and health. A reminder we can use not just at Christmas, but throughout the year.

The book "Finding Father Christmas" by Robin Jones Gunn takes us on an English holiday for Christmas. When Miranda goes to England, all she wants to do is discover her father. All she had was bits and pieces and a photo with a tag from a business no longer in existence. But when she's befriended and taken in for the holidays, Miranda begins a journey of faith and discovery of not only her earthly father, but also her Heavenly one. A sweet story that tugs at the heart, drawing the reader to a Christmas of worship.

Author Leisha Kelly brings us to a heart of gratitude in the book "Till Morning Is Nigh." It is the depression and the Worthams have enough to do just to keep food on their table, without having to take in the Hammond children as well. But take them in they do when their father George disappears as Christmas and the anniversary of the death of his beloved wife nears. As the family struggles through the circumstances of the times and the heartache of losing one they loved, and as the search for George intensifies, will Christmas bring tragedy or the silent night of peace? A well-written, impelling story of hope and faith.

The book, "An Irish Christmas" is a sweet romance by Melody Carlson. With her only son threatening to join the military, Colleen realized it was time to share the secret her husband made her never to tell anyone. But he was gone, her life is falling apart, and now she is losing her son. But will a trip to Ireland bring mother and son to the truth or will it tear them irrevocably apart? A sweet Christmas story set in the tumultuous early 60's showing, that after all, honesty really is the best policy.

These Christmas book releases have on element in common. They bring us back to the heart of Christmas where a baby came to as a gift of love to all humankind. May these books help you celebrate this Christmas with joy.
