Christmas Romance at the Niagara Falls Festival of Lights

Canada's Brightest Festival

Karen Reams

For a Christmas Vacation you won't soon forget, I strongly suggest heading to the Niagara Falls Festival of Lights. If you haven't heard of the Niagara Falls Festival of Lights, let me introduce you to this annual wonder.

The Niagara Falls Festival of Lights is a wondrous FREE light show that lights up the evenings in Niagara Falls from November thru til Jan. Although free, donations are gratefully accepted.

The show has a 5 km illuminated route of displays, fireworks, concerts, and children's performances. The area known as the Niagara Parks Winter Wonderland stretches from Dufferin Islands along the Niagara parkway, past the Rainbow Bridge to Whirlpool Bridge. Just imagine a light show that has over 100 displays and almost two million lights.

For the more romantic amongst us we can take part in river road guided stroll which will pass Bed and Breakfasts and magnificent Victorian homes that are all dressed and lit for the season of good cheer. You will enjoy choral singing, hot chocolate and roasted chestnuts. This is Christmas at its magical best.

This year the Niagara Falls Festival of Lights begins on Saturday November 8th and goes through until Friday January 2nd 2009. Please keep in mind that the fireworks displays are weather permitting which means that if it is raining or there are high winds for instance then the performances could be cancelled.

Of course to make your visit really special you need to stay in special accommodation and at this point I would recommend the Sheraton On The Falls Hotel.

This four diamond hotel is situated right across the road from the falls in the midst of Niagara's premier Fallsview district. From this hotel you can see spectacular views of the Canadian and the American falls.

The comfort of this hotel is remarkable from the luxurious guest rooms featuring floor to ceiling windows offering unbeatable views of the falls to the relaxation experienced in the Fallsview Christienne Spa.

Dining at the Sheraton On The falls Hotel in itself is an experience from wonderful breakfasts to set you up for the day to romantic candlelight dinners to relax you for the evening.

Should you also like a little edge of seat excitement the Sheraton On The falls Hotels is connected to Casino Niagara. This casino consists of 200,000 square feet filled with slot machines and gaming tables.

Don't forget if traveling to Canada from the U.S. that you will need a passport to enter the Canadian entry point.
