Traveling during Christmas can be both exciting and stressful. There are many things that can go wrong, but if you follow the following tips, you will be prepared for any circumstance!

Plan Ahead

This is the most important tip. You always need to take the time to make sure you have everything you need, you have checked all important information and packed everything you need. This will prevent many common problems when traveling.

Driving Tips:

Check The Weather Forecast

I can't tell you how much time I would have saved in the past if I had bothered to check the weather forecast.. But it can save you more than time if the weather turns dangerous, which, depending on your area, can happen quickly. So make sure to take a look before heading out.

Pack For The Weather

You always want to make sure you are packing appropriately for the weather. If you are driving, you want to make sure you pack extra clothing and blankets in case of an emergency. If you are flying to somewhere warm, you still want to make sure you pack a coat for the return trip.

Have Supplies

This is especially important if you are driving in poor road conditions. Make sure you have salt, a shovel and an emergency kit. You can get some ready made at most stores such as Wal Mart or Target, but often it's cheaper to make your own. Include some food and water. If you are driving in snow, pack some kitty litter ... it can give you traction if you get stuck.

Make Sure People Know Where You Are

Before you leave for your trip, make sure people know when you are leaving and where you are going. If you are planning on driving in some potentially bad weather, it will help if they know the route you are taking and when you plan to arrive. In case of an emergency, it can save precious time if someone knows the general area where you are.

Bring Food

For long trips, make sure you have a meal ready in case of an emergency. Even a granola bar can come in handy.

Stay With The Car

If you do happen to have an accident, do not leave the car. It's much easier for someone to spot a car than a human. Besides, if you aren't sure where you are, it's much safer to stay with the car until help arrives.

Keep Tailpipe Clear

If you are in an accident and you are running the car, make sure the tailpipe stays clear. If not, harmful carbon monoxide can leak back into your car, so make sure to get out every now and again to clear the tailpipe.

Keep Hands Clean

Airports and airplanes are usually packed around the holidays, so keep yourself safe by frequently washing your hands. This will decrease the risk of you getting sick.

Keep Baggage Close

I know you hear it on the speaker at the airport, but it's good practice. Someone can easily steal your luggage, making it a bad holiday, and possible putting you in harm's way as well. So keep an eye on all of your things.
