Christmas Scavenger Hunt

Christmas is always a time to have fun and be merry. It is a time to play games and sing songs. One of the things that many youth like to do is a scavenger hunt. There are many ways that you can go about creating fun and Christian-like ideas. The first thing you need to do is create a list of things that they are hunting for. You need to make sure they are logical enough for them to actually retrieve for the game. You need to set the duration of time they have to fulfill their goal. You also must give them the general vicinity as to where to find these items. It is always a lot more fun if you have created the list instead of found one on internet.

Think of things that deal with Christmas time. You can have a number of different ways to go with this. You can begin your list by using Christmas itself. You can have Santa Clause or Christmas Tree on the list that they have to find. If you use this, be sure that you have little figurines that they are supposed to be finding. Another way that you could create your list is to use items that deal with Christian Christmas ideas such as: Jesus, Advent candle, ect. Still, you can simply use a list of items that deals with a Nativity Scene including: donkey, the Baby Jesus, Mary, Joseph, lamb, ect.

A fun way to do a scavenger hunt is through questions that they must find the answers to. If you want they can use the internet or use the Bible. They could be questions such as: What kind of trees are decorated at Christmas time in India or Name the three friends from the Far East in the Book of Job.

Some people like to be interactive with others when it comes to a scavenger hunt. You could come up with a list of items that they must get as they go from house to house to ask for them. This is a great way to get your group up and moving when they tend to want to have time to talk.

You could turn your scavenger hunt into a true hunt. You could give them a map that they must follow to reach the prize at the end. They have to go through many areas to get an item so that they don't just head to the end without going by the map.

You could give each group a card with a clue on it. They figure out the clue and head to the spot that the answer is. At that spot, they must find another card and item that has a clue on it. They must figure out the clue to get to the next spot for their next item. The amount of clues and cards that you hide depends on how long you want the scavenger hunt to continue.

Scavenger hunts don't always mean that you have to leave an area. One way that you can have a hunt is by finding a Scripture that is known by your group and reading it. They must then figure out what the Scripture is. The group that gets the first Scripture chooses a Scripture for the other groups. This goes on until you want it to stop. This also depends on the age group that you are working with.

Carols are a huge part of Christmas. You can have a list of songs that each group gets. They then come up with a section of the song to sing or say to the other groups. The group that wins goes next. You can keep track of score to see who wins.

You can have an Advent Scavenger hunt. You use things that deal with the Advent Calendar. You can use cards or paper to give them clues or ideas on what they must get. You could also use the idea of the Advent Calendar so that your hunt is inside the calendar itself.

Recipes could be used in a scavenger hunt. There is an ingredient that is wrong so you have to go find that ingredient to get where you need to go next. This means that you will have to have cupboards that you will be able to use so that they can dig for what they are looking for.

Using the alphabet will help you create a scavenger hunt. You can find various items with names that being with each of the letters in the alphabet. This allows you to be creative and also helps you to create a list of items that your group must get.

God gives you the ability to touch and feel. Make a list of things that have to feel a certain way. You could try getting gummie worms or some sort of gummie, so on the list you would say "gummie."

God also was able to give you the ability to hear. Use words that sound like something that they have to get. An example of this would be: as all. If you say it fast enough, it sounds like apple. The group must find an apple from somebody.

Create your own ideas out of paper that people have to find. You may cut out a heart and tell them they have to find a paper heart. You could say that they must find a pink dolphin. You will have cut out a dolphin out of pink paper.

Get a kiddie pool and put items in it that your groups must find after you have put sand on top of them all.

Find large boxes that are full of a lot of stuff. Fill each box to the rim. Put in one item that each group is supposed to find out of the box. Try to have at least 6 or 7 boxes so that it makes it challenging.

Try to use pictures for the scavenger hunt. They can only use the pictures provided to come up with the largest amount of items they could find in those pictures. Be sure that you use pictures that have a lot of items and details within them.

The last thing that you could do to create a scavenger hunt is to have your group put into two different groups. Have them think of five items to put on the list in front of them. After they have done this, you will have them pass it to the other group. These are now the list of items that they have to find within an hour.
