Christmas Shopping Gifts Best Left Alone

Not Every Gift is the Perfect Gift

Shopping for Christmas gifts can be one of the most frustrating activities of the year. Although gift giving is meant to be in good spirits it can bring on excess stress while trying to purchase the perfect gift for grandma, Uncle Joe, siblings and anyone else who's lucky enough to land on your gift list. The problem lies in the fact you're trying to make each gift special and personal. Unfortunately, many quick gift ideas are just that; they're quick and often times useless for the person receiving the present. Though your mother may be grateful for the Corning Ware set there may be someone on your list who doesn't care for your choice of Christmas gifts. Here are some items that make nice gifts but may not be exactly what your loved one will get excited about.

Dated Christmas Ornaments

Before Thanksgiving is even over some people are already setting up Christmas decorations and Christmas trees but giving a dated ornament may be "outdated." Christmas ornaments offer an easy route for gift giving and may be greatly appreciated but a dated ornate glass ornament received on the day of Christmas will not get its use; especially, if the tradition is to take the tree down soon after Christmas day. If you're planning to give an ornament as a gift; present it several days or more before the holiday so your loved one can enjoy it.

Perfume Sets

I love perfume as much as the next person but perfume is very personal. Unless you know this is a perfume that's worn on a regular basis buying perfume can be a big crap shoot. There are scents and tones that a make each perfume unique and that's what draws a person to the fragrance. Although it may take the surprise out of the gift ask before hand what type of scents are enjoyed most by the recipient. You may be right on the money or realize this is not the proper gift for your loved one.

Bath and Body Sets

Bath sets were the craze for some time and still are depending on the person. The sets are simple and are offered in elegantly trimmed boxes making them perfect gifts. Though this may seem to be the case sometimes it is best not to give these as a gift. If your loved one has skin allergies or sensitivities this is a gift best left alone. If you still plan to purchase a bath set as a gift choose an item that you have been able to sample. Stores such as TJMaxx carry gift sets that are already boxed so you can't smell or feel the consistency of the lotions or oils. Even well priced items aren't worth the value if it isn't what you expected it to be.

Men's Wallets

Every holiday season men's wallets sit in huge piles waiting to be purchased in combinations of leather or eel skin. Once given, your dad may love the wallet but it may not be something he needs or uses. A large percentage of men don't carry over sized wallets because check books have been replaced by debit cards while smaller wallets have been replaced by the use of money clips.
