Christmas Shopping Year Round: A Wise Idea

E.Tirratino
It happens every year. So many people wait for the very last minute to do their Christmas shopping and find that at the end of it all they're tired, stressed out and broke. With a little foresight and an eye for bargains, you can have your Christmas shopping done long before the season arrives, & with extra money to spare to buy much more than egg-nog.

Start your Christmas shopping the day after Christmas, or as soon as possible after the big day when everything goes on sale. If you love your home to be festive during the holidays, & like to decorate with themed hand-towels, stockings, or things of that sort, now is the time to buy them. Also, stock up on wrapping paper, bows, & gift bags. Of course this is common knowledge, but so many of us don't follow through on this opportunity.

If you have a lot of children in your family, or you know a lot of children, look out for sales on toys year-round. Keep in mind how old each child will be during the season and buy the toys accordingly. The same goes for clothing or other trinkets for everyone else.

Make a list of everyone you know you usually get gifts for, and during the year when you come across a sale with relevant items for each person, buy it and set it aside until Christmas.

Do this also for birthdays, anniversaries, or for any other occasion that will require gift-giving.

There is also nothing wrong with re-gifting. Many times we receive gifts that we appreciate, but we just don't like. Put the gift aside with a sticky note of who it was from and save it to give to someone else who will appreciate it more. Be sure to label who the gift is from so that you don't re-gift to the original giver!

By buying when items are on sale, you can give great gifts instead of mediocre ones to the people on your list because it will be affordable for you. When you wait for the last minute, you'll find that the quality of your gifts may not be as good because of the higher costs during the Christmas season.

These days when money is a scarce resource for many people, it's best to be organized and plan ahead. Doing so will allow you to facilitate a happy holiday for your family and friends, and leave you with extra money to buy even yourself a great gift.
