Christmas Sitcom Classics from Long Ago

margaret
As the Christmas season begins to emerge in the horizon, my mind becomes "all about christmas". Lately, I've been reminiscing about favorite Christmas episodes on older TV shows. Below I've listed some of my favorite episodes of all time. Maybe one or two of them will be yours also. Or this list will remind you of some your own favorite past sitcom christmas episodes.

The Brady Bunch:

Carol gets laryngitis and will not be able to sing at in the choir on Christmas s morning. Cindy, the youngest Brady, asks Santa for her mom to get her voice back. And as all happy endings go in sitcom land, Carol does indeed recover, and proudly sings with the choir on Christmas morning.

I love Lucy

Classic. The Mertzes and Ricky and Lucy squabble over Santa, presents, and little Ricky. All four characters end up in Santa costumes, trying to surprise Little Ricky, when they are caught off guard by a noise. The "Real Santa", no doubt?

Bewitched

An episode featuring "esmerelda", Santa is transported accidentally into the Stevens" Kitchen (Samantha and Darrin) at Christmas time. Unable to get Santa back to where he needs to be, Samantha does the nest best thing and brings the North Pole to her living room in order to save Christmas all around the world.

The Lucy Show

Lucy and Vivian each want a different Christmas tree. Lucy wants the traditional Green tree, while Vivian wants a white-flocked tree. Unable to agree on a tree, they end up with both trees in their living room. Two trees, three kids, and two stubborn adults later, the place is a mess and chaos has taken over. But with the arrival of Christmas carolers, the true meaning of Christmas soon returns! Funny show!

The Mary Tyler Moore Show

One Christmas Eve Mary has to stay at the station and work. It's really no surprise when one by one her co-workers return to keep Mary company. They all celebrate merrily together, even singing some Christmas Carols.

Bewitched

A truly great episode that many would say was ahead of its time. It is the episode where Tabitha and a friend of hers encounter racism as they play together in the park. Tabitha changes the color of her and her friend's skin, but ends up creating polka dots of black and white on the girls' skin instead. It is a very heart warming episode, as well as a bit comical with some hijinks ala Samantha are played out at an office Christmas party. In a touching scene, Samantha explains to her daughter that all girls can be sisters regardless of the color of their skin.

Watching great Christmas classics from old sitcoms is a fun family tradition to have. Everyone can pick an episode they like, and you can find dvds of old sitcoms online and in video stores. Pop a big bowl of popcorn, light the fireplace, and settle in for a cozy winter night full of laughter!
