Christmas Stocking Stuffer Ideas for Your Family Pet

Teresa Wilson
Christmas is the time of year that we search to find the perfect gifts to give to all our loved ones and that includes our family pets. If you have a beloved family pet, then you probably already know about buying gifts for your pet at Christmastime. You may even have a personalized Christmas stocking for your pet to hang up along with the rest of the family's personalized Christmas stockings. Do you find yourself buying stocking stuffers to fill up your family pet's Christmas stocking along with those of your human family as well? I have several ideas for some great stocking stuffers to buy for your family pet this Christmas.

Whatever animal your family pet may be; dog, cat, bird, rabbit, ferret etc., the first thing you'll need is a Christmas stocking to stuff. The stocking can be either store bought from the many choices available such as those at the Stocking Factory or homemade. If you decide to make a Christmas stocking for your pet, they can be easily made from felt and then personalized with glue and glitter. Once you have your stocking, it's time to think about gifts.

Small dog breeds such as Pomeranians, Chihuahuas, Papillions etc. are often treated like special pampered babies by their dog owners. I know this from my own personal experience when I had Pomeranians for fifteen years. This means that any stocking stuffer gift ideas for these dogs will need to be very special and small in size. One special gift idea that is specially made for small dogs is available from The Obsession Box Company. It includes four tiny boots with Velcro closures, a neck scarf, two rope toys and a "Good dog" food bowl. Everything comes in a cheerful red color and costs $22.50. If you order through Findgifts.com, there is a ten percent discount off your purchase.

If your small dog goes with you around lakes, ponds, rivers or the ocean, another stocking stuffer idea is a Doggy Life Jacket. Petco.com sells them in small dog sizes in yellow or pink or blue polka dots starting at about $20.00. The life jackets for small dogs have a carrying handle on top so you can grab it quick for your pet's safety. Life jackets for large dogs are also available.

Petco.com offers a large selection of stuffed toys, chew ropes, bones, balls and more for small, medium and large dog breeds. Check out their website for their selection.

Pretty collars and leashes are a good choice for Christmas stocking stuffers for your family pet. The color and style selections are huge and varied at websites such as Petco.com and Petsmart.com. One special collar available at Petsmart.com for small dogs is the Faux Alligator Collar with Rhinestone Charm. It comes in either pink or blue and has a rhinestone bone charm in a matching color. It cost about $8.00. You can see it here. There is also a matching leash. A collar that is personalized with the family pets name is a good stocking stuffer. A variation on the personalized collar idea is to personalize a tag with your pet's name, phone number and address which can then be attached to your pets' collar. You can even buy rhinestone charms in different shapes such as bones, dogs, hearts and more to add to your dogs' collar.

Cats can wear collars too but if you are afraid to put a collar on your cat, there are breakaway safety collars available for your cats' safety. You can check out some of the cat safety collars at Petsmart.com. One special cat collar available for gift giving is the Jingle Bells Christmas cat collar. It comes in red and green with bells and ribbon accents around the bells. You can see it here. It cost $9.00. Or how about a cheetah, leopard or zebra print cat collar? You can add rhinestone charms in different charming shapes to any cat collar as well.

A fun Christmas stocking stuffer idea is pet shirts. Pet Tees can be cute or funny such as the Harley Davidson Orange Bone Tee at Petsmart.com. It is available for $20.00 and it comes in different colors. Other pet clothing to consider as Christmas stocking stuffers is snow suits and sweaters which can be considered necessary for short-haired pets in extremely cold climates.

Interactive pet toys for your dog are available at Muttropolis.com. You can check out their selection here.

Pet treats are a good stocking stuffer idea for any type of pet. Petsmart.com and Petco.com offer all manner of animal pet treats for your dogs, cats, birds, ferrets, rabbits, hamsters, etc.

If the family pet is a bird, there is a selection of almost fifty bird toys to choose your stocking stuffers from at Petco.com.

In case your family pet is a ferret, Petsmart.com offers a nice selection of ferret toys, crinkle tunnels and more at their website. To help make your pet gift giving easier, check out the website Findgift.com. It isn't exclusively for pets, instead it is for anyone you might want to buy a gift for, but there are so many options for pets that it is a great place to visit if you just aren't sure where to start when you are wondering what to buy for your pets' Christmas stocking.

When it is time to open gifts in the Christmas stockings this year, I hope your pet will find some gifts that he or she really enjoys. And if your pet finds the holidays too stressful, there's always a pet spa available for them!
