Christmas Stocking Stuffers for Elderly Loved Ones

When selecting Christmas stocking stuffers for your elderly loved ones, you will want to take into consideration their personal tastes, as well as, their physical limitations. No one likes to be reminded that they are getting old, but, carefully thought out gifts are always appreciated when they will make day to day life a bit more pleasant.

If your elderly loved one is a coffee drinker, consider a large mug, which is easy to grip, stuffed with gourmet instant coffees, teas and hot chocolates. Also, consider a Christmas stocking stuffed with simple snacks, like soft cookies or wafers, dried fruits, and hard candies. You will want to find out if he/she is diabetic or not; if so, then, buy sugar-free snacks.

For the elderly person, who has limited sight, large faced watches and clocks would be appropriate Christmas stocking stuffers. If your loved one enjoys puzzles, buy a selection of jumbo sized crosswords and fill-in puzzles. And if he/she enjoys bridge or card games, consider large print playing cards. Regular phone pads, can be difficult to read for an average person, so purchasing a phone with large numbers would come in handy, especially if the ear piece has adjustable volume for those with hearing limitations.

If you want to bring comfort to an elderly person who may feel lonely at times or isolated, consider stuffing their Christmas stocking with photo albums or a tape recorder. Small photo albums may be easier to handle than one large book, which may be too heavy to carry. Also, digital photo albums are especially nice, because new pictures can be downloaded at anytime. Another stocking stuffer that may help put the family at the elderly person's finger tips, is a tape recorder/player. Record Christmas messages from each family member, especially the grandchildren. New messages can be recorded for future holidays and occasions, like birthdays. If the elderly person's sight is limited, consider buying favorite books or tape articles from their favorite magazine. Hearing a familiar voice will bring much joy and comfort each time the tapes are listened to.

If the elderly person is confined to a wheel chair or uses a walker, stuff his/her Christmas stocking with a cup holder designed for the walker and wheelchair. Another helpful item is pocketed bags, that attach to the wheelchair and walker, used to house personal items.

These are just a few ideas to get you started. There are a number of Christmas stocking stuffers that would be helpful to an elder individual. In cases like this, it is the thoughtfulness that really does count and will bring a smile to your loved one's face every time he/she uses your gift.

These are great ideas. My mother is in a nursing home, and confined to a wheelchair. Some of these would be great for her. Thanks.
