Christmas Table Decorations You Can Make

Add Elegance to Your Holiday Centerpieces

Susan Sosbe
A table centerpiece can add a touch of elegance to your Christmas table. You can make your Christmas table centerpiece yourself, thereby saving money, while still giving your table a view your holiday guests will enjoy. Use the following as ideas to create your own masterpiece to add to the holidays.

Gift-Wrapped Centerpiece

You will need:

Empty Box

Elegant Christmas Paper

Elegant Ribbon

A gift-wrapped centerpiece will add a festive air to your holiday gathering, while at the same time add a bit of elegance. You will need a box, elegant Christmas gift wrap and a wide elegant bow or ribbon.

Wrap the box as you would a normal gift. Decorate the box with the ribbon. Use the ribbon to create a large, festive bow to place on top of the box.

For added touches, you can place the box on a bed of evergreen boughs, battery operated holiday lights or a large doily. You can also place smaller gift-wrapped boxes around the larger box. Use your imagination and creativity-and what you have around the house-to add those special touches to your holiday centerpiece.

To compliment the look, you can use smaller boxes at each place setting. Use gift tags with your guests' names to indicate place settings.

Candle Centerpiece

You will need:

Large Candle

Wide Elegant Ribbon

Needle

Thread

Another idea for a centerpiece to make yourself is a candle, with a little extra flair. You will need a large, wide candle. White would work and it doesn't need to be scented. You're going more for visual presentation and the candle doesn't need to compete with the delicious aromas of your Christmas dinner.

You will also need a couple yards of wide holiday ribbon. The ribbon is where you will add your elegance, so choose the ribbon accordingly.

You will need to make a bow with the ribbon. Continuously loop the ribbon, going in a circle, while holding the center with the thumb of your other hand. Every few loops, you may want to tack the center with a needle and thread.

When your large bow is complete, nestle the candle in the center of the bow. Fluff up the loops a bit and arrange it so the bow creates a beautiful surrounding to your candle.

To compliment the look, duplicate it in a smaller version using tealight candles and matching ribbon for each place setting.

Candy Cane Bouquet

You will need:

Candy Canes

Crystal Vase

Red Velvet Ribbon

A candy cane bouquet will make a simple, but elegant statement at your Christmas table. It is also very simple and quick to make.

Take a large bundle of red and white candy canes and gather them together. Place them is a beautiful low crystal glass or vase . Take the velvet ribbon and create a bow around the vase. The red and white will contrast sharply with each other.

Finish off the look with a red or crisp white table cloth. For added touches, use single candy canes with name tags printed on your computer using an elegant font for place settings.
