1.Decorating the Christmas tree, do all the members of the family get together and decorate the tree? Or do the children help mom put on all the ornaments every year? Maybe your family has a tree trimming party every year. Is the job of putting the angel on top of the tree reserved for the youngest member of the family?
2.Baking, food is associated with many families Christmas traditions. This can be mother and children baking cookies and decorating them, or maybe the annual Christmas dinner, where everyone gets together and enjoys a wonderful meal while sharing stories of Christmas past. A tradition could be something as simple as moms nut rolls every year. They bring you a special memory and its done every year that is what makes it a tradition.
3. Telling a Christmas story to the children on Christmas Eve would be a great tradition that could be passed along for many generations. Even when the children grow they will look back and remember how special it was hearing dad or grandpa read to them. Then they may choose to keep the tradition going by reading to their children the same story.
4. When the presents are opened can become a tradition as well. In my family we never opened gifts until Christmas morning, after all Santa didn't come until nighttime. So now I have kept this tradition going and my daughter doesn't open her presents until Christmas morning.
5. Another tradition we have begun is to choose an angel from the Angel tree and provide Christmas gifts to children that wouldn't otherwise have. We get the first name and age of the child and then purchase warm winter clothing and toys for them to have on Christmas morning. I really love this tradition in teaching my daughter the joy of helping others less fortunate then we. She loves picking out the clothing and toys for the children.
6.Another tradition could be going to church on Christmas Eve or Christmas day. We all need to remember the true reason for Christmas and going to church is a great way to do this.
7. Going Christmas caroling every year and then coming home to cookies and hot chocolate would be a great tradition to have .The kids would love singing their favorite Christmas songs .You could have a neighborhood caroling party. Have everyone bring a plate of goodies and enjoy the night of festive fun.
8.Don't forget the tradition of leaving out cookies and milk for Santa. You could add to this tradition by placing Magic food out for Santa's reindeer. All you need to make this is some quick cook oats and glitter. Just mix them together and sprinkle on the front lawn. The oats are for the reindeer to eat and the glitter is to help them find their way to your house. This is a tradition that will surely be passed down to your children's children and so on.
9.Make a tradition of going to see Christmas lights. Have the family pile in the car and drive around the neighborhood looking at all the decorations. Then go back home and enjoy some hot chocolate and baked goodies. This is a tradition that would be enjoyed by every one of all ages.
10.Traditions can be anything that you and your family do each year to celebrate the holidays. Traditions leave you with memories that last for many years and make you want to pass them down to your children. Maybe this year you can start a new tradition with your family.

Post a CommentFor about 15 years my family had a white cotton tablecloth that was put on the dinner table and each person at the family gathering signed his/her name. Then my grandmother took the tablecloth home and embroidered the names as they were written. This is my most treasured Christmas memory because not only does it bring back memories of my grandmother but i can look back and see where children were gradually welcomed into our family, family friends came to our gatherings and family members who have passed from our lives.
I had a friend who had a trail of candy of all sorts that led from the children's bedroom to the Christmas tree on Christmas morning the kids really enjoyed it.
I appreciate your yourk. Please check my Christmas message " Jesus, the Gift to to the World"
