Traditions come in many shapes and sizes. Some can be large while others can be small. A great way to create a tradition is by doing something that is fun, yet unique. Take Christmas paper or create it yourself and write a letter to someone who is not celebrating Christmas with you. When you have finished writing your letter, be sure to mail it out. Write a letter each year to the same person or to somebody completely new.
One of these wonderful Christmas Traditions you can start in your new house is quite simple. Go to your kitchen and pull out some popcorn and cook it. Once the popcorn has been popped, let it cool down. Get some string and thread it through an eyelet needle. Put the needle through the popcorn and bring it down to the end of your thread. This will make a wonderful decoration for your house. It also creates a Christmas Tradition because you have to sit down together to complete however many strands that you want. During this time you can listen to Christmas music or watch a Christmas movie.
Another great Christmas Tradition is finding the perfect Christmas movie or Christmas cartoon to watch at a specific time on a specific day. In my family, our tradition is to watch "White Christmas" and we will watch it on Christmas Eve. Now, all you have to do is find your perfect movie and night to create a fun tradition for you and your family.
If you have a blender, you are in for a treat. Let your children, or do it yourself, create a shake or slush. Lay out some fruit or veggies that would taste good together and then let someone else pick and choose what goes into the blender. When they have finished creating their slush or shake, then each year take turns creating a new shake or slush.
Try to wrap a few old traditions together. For starters, fudge is always served around Christmas. Make a few different types of fudge with your family so that the creating of fudge will become a tradition. You can create many different traditions when you begin to get creative when cooking or baking things. Try a new Christmas recipe each year that you find in a magazine. Try an old recipe that you remember Grama or Great Grama making. These are all different ways to help create some Christmas Traditions in your new home.
Decorations are always a great way to create traditions. If you have a nativity scene, try creating a way for your children to help set up the nativity scene. Allow them to set the scene up however they want. If this bothers you, be sure to have your "true" nativity scene that will be set up where they can not reach it.
Find a place where you all like to go when it gets near Christmas time. Return to that place every year. Bring a picnic lunch and sit out in the snow or bring some hot apple cider or hot coco for you to drink while you take a walk around the area.
Go out and look at all the different Christmas lights that have been put up where you live. Drive around if it is too cold. There is never one house that looks exactly the same, so it is always fun and cheap to look at the different lights. It can also give you a great idea on a way to decorate the next year.
The last thing that you could try doing to create a Christmas Tradition in your new house is to sing Christmas Carols. If you don't like to sing with just family, go around your neighbor with some of your baked goods. Sing a carol for them and then offer them a plate of goodies. This lets you get to know your new neighbors as well as helps create a traditions for your family.
